Back again and need some help

    Hi,
I was doing good about a year ago, tapered off 6-9 glasses of wine a night. stoped for a little while and than back to the same old game. Now I'm done to four - five small glasses a night, how do I taper down to none? I really want to stop. My husband is in the ICU right now from drinking 10 to 15 beers a day, he had a seizure. He's in such bad shape, we'll most like lose everything from this as he will need to go to a 30 day rehab, I doubt his boss will keep him on. I just want to stop! Is there hope for me?

P.S. My husband had the seizure from continuing drinking not from trying to stop.

    Hi Stumpy,
I am so sorry to hear of your troubles. I hope your husband is okay, at least he is getting medical help. Is there anyway you could go to a doctor and explain your situation? There is medication that can help you when you quit drinking. I would suggest you start tapering down slowly, maybe you can get down to 1-2 glasses per night, and then none? If you can, please go to a doctor, and please keep checking in here and letting us know how you are.

Hi K9. I really didn't think 6 glasses a night were hurt but now that I taper to 4 small ones, i did have trouble sleeping last night. Not sure if that was because of my husband or the lack of wine. I've read were people on here have gone cold turkey after drink two big bottle a night, I'm taking vitimin B-100 and I have clonzaepam for when I do stop altogether. but you think I should go to my GP?

Stumpy, welcome back. And, yes, there is definitely hope for you! I've read many stories here from people with serious things to overcome, and they have done it. I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through and hope your husband will be ok. And, even though you might not be able to see it now, sometimes the tragedies in our lives end up having a silver lining. Maybe you and your husband will go on to have a better life once this has all blown over.

Anyway, like K9 says, maybe the best thing would be to get help for detoxing. Do you have any kind of plan? Diet, exercise, changing your routine?

        Wishing you the best.
