    DUI update

    Hi Star
I hope everything gets sorted for you quickly so you can move on from the DUI and start to deal with your addictions.

Your husband will come round he's feeling angry probably not just because of the money etc., but because of what could have happened, you could have been hurt or hurt others and he's maybe worried that if if happens again you could end up in jail and be taken away from him and your children.

I've said it so many times but here goes there are some truly lovely caring people on this site, we have all got varying degrees of dependency and no one judges any actions that a person makes under the influence of alcohol/drugs.

K9 gives a frank account of her experiences but look at her now she's a beautiful sober woman - take what she says and learn from her and your DUI experience, you will get through this you have to for yourself and your family.

Take care keep us posted on how you get on, we are all here for you xxxx

        DUI update

well i just got back from my 1st group meeting. It was a mixture of substance abuse and anger management issues. i talked (and cried) just a little bit. I don't think it will be so bad. She wants me to go to the group on tuesday nights since i have such a history as well as my family with alcohol. i am still felling the shame but have not let myself go to deep in my dark whole. i finally have an appetite and now fear i will gain weight for substituting one thing for the other. today will be one week i have not drank and have NO cravings too. I like this point of sobriety when everything seems possible but then the DUI creeps in my brain and pulls back my excitement.
I must suppress the beast within so I can find my way out of the darkness.
        sober since 2/4/12

Star, a much better life is possible regardless of the DUI -- at some point it will be a distant memory, so just stay focused on the present. So glad your meeting went well. Sending you big hugs :lilheart:

              DUI update

              Hi, Star.
Congrats on a week sober. That is great. As bad as the consequences from the DUI are, just keep telling yourself that you won't ever have to worry about getting another one as long as you are sober. I had to get two to reach that point. Court tomorrow, but I already know the consequences. Almost $1,000 in fines, probably triple that in attorney's fees, 18 months license loss, reduced to a year if I complete the alcohol classes, follow up, probably with a LDAC, and the interlock device for a year when I do get my license back. But I know I could have injured or killed somebody and I thank God that didn't happen.
Hang in there--we are all her for you!

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow TDN. I've been reading your posts over the last few months and have been impressed by how you have handled your DUI. That being said, I'm sure you are dreading court tomorrow, so just know that there are people who care about you and hope it goes well for you.

                          DUI update

Another eye-opening read is a book by Audrey Kishline, the woman who founded Moderation Management. I think it's called "Face to Face." She dropped away from MM, but then started drinking again, and got in a car accident with a bottle of vodka in her truck, driving the wrong way on the freeway and killed a man and his 12-year-old daughter. Horrible story. The real kicker is that she came to know the mother of the 12 year old (the man's ex-wife) and they actually co-authored the book together. I don't say this to scare you or throw it in your face, but I made sure I was stone cold sober when I read it because I wanted to remember every last terrible, scary word. You can get it from the library.

Hey, Star, I'm hoping we'll hear from you today. I know you can get through this. You can always send me a PM if you want. I got just what I said I would when I went to court on Monday. But I am okay. Could have been so much worse, as CS said. I am going to try to get that book on ebay.
