    A.A. Doing the steps

I've gone to AA meetings and found them helpful. But when it comes down to doing the steps with a mentor that's when I lose interest. I'm a very private person and don't do well with a lot of interacting. Why must they force something on you that your personality does'nt accept. Thanks, IAD:new:

      Welcome!!

:welcome: Ismael! As Owly said, you've come to the right place for advice, information and support which won't require you to do anything you feel uncomfortable with. Read as many posts as you can and all the info on the My Way Out program and remember, even though you are a very private person, everyone here has been in the same boat and will welcome you wholeheartedly and without judgement.

Again, welcome and we all look forward to hearing a bit more about you when you are ready.

      Best wishes
      The Terror

PS - Owly - I will be checking up on you after 7pm tonight - so you have been warned, young man:H :h

        :welcome: Ismael,

I am also a very private person, and like you would not work well with a mentor. I have been coming onto mwo website since last Saturday and am doing quite well. I had a couple of slips this weekend, but did not get drunk held it back to 2 drinks and then asked myself what the H am I doing this for and quit. That is the first time I have done that in years. I agree with Owly and Terror, this is a great place to come. Keep reading and posting, there is a great support network here.

        Take care.

Welcome and Huggs. You won't get pushed into doing stuff you don't want to do. You just have to want to take steps to change. We don't even push how to do that. Just do what you need to do to get towards your goal. Read and post. You're not alone. Hope you keep coming back.

                  Thanks for the support!

Finally, someone that feels the way I do. No one in AA ever understood, so I stoped going to it. This seems so very Promising. I got the book, am getting the pills. Thanks all!:thanks: :thanks:

Welcome! I'm also a very private person, and the great thing about this site is you can be as talkative or quiet as you want - you won't be judged. But if you need support, it's always here. Keeping reading the posts, there's lots of good info here.

                        A.A. Doing the steps

                        hi everyone,
I have a long history with AA going back 23 years. There is a lot of subtle pressure to conform to the groupthink at AA. This includes doing the 12 steps with a sponsor (mentor). This does not suit everyone in fact given AA's low effectiveness rate of about 5% it doesn't suit many.
Also, despite what AA says about it's program being spiritual in nature there are many who unequivocably will tell you it is in fact religious and demands the acceptance and practice of what are religious concepts. That's why I couldn't reconcile myself to AA. Basically I'm an atheist and I'm happy with that position for myself.
I just want to stop drinking and lead a happy purposeful life without being pressured to conform to other peoples expectations of what should be right for me. I feel that the forum here at MWO is very supportive and I feel comfortable interacting with the members here. I wish everyone who has a drinking problem all the best and hope that everyone achieves their personal goals whether that be abs or mods.
                        later with love

                          IAD,

Yes, you have come to the right place. The MWO approach is much more holistic and healthy, in my humble opinion. There are a few here that do benefit from AA and I am glad it helps them, however, statistics indicate they are the minority of the program. For me, the white-knuckle AA approach seems archaic. I was thrilled to discover this site and learn of the supplements and meds one can help to assist getting off the booze. It is a shame the 12 step program seems stuck in time and has not embraced these useful tools. For those interested, an analysis of AA can be viewed @ Orange Papers

Last time I posted this, I got bashed from an anonymous AA'er so let me make it very clear, if AA is working for you, I am thrilled for you. The more tools in the toolbox to fight our drinking issues (not disease), the better.

You can talk to alot of people here not just one person, that is what I like. We are all here and can do the same as a mentor as far as I am concerned. I to felt funny calling someone, like a pest but here I never feel like I am bothering anyone.
