    Grateful for the support

Hello all you brave and kind souls. I am a newbie, my name is Nike ( Just Do It! ). Well that's what I did... today is day 4. But I'm not sure I would have been able to "just do it" without :heart::heart::heart::heart: I found on MWO. Funny, I discovered the link to MWO while on a website to auction off all the wine in our cellar. I live in France, we had a fantastic wine cellar that we had built up over many years and it was heart breaking to sell it all. But we needed the money desperately and some of the bottles even sold for $5000. Fortunately we had not drinken (drank?) those!
Thank you all for your support.

    :welcome: Nike!

We are so glad you found us - no matter how it came about!

Must have been quite an impressive collection - bet it was hard to let go. Giving up AL is also hard but it can be done. I'm sure you've probably already read countless stories here about how people just like you have been able to overcome their problem.

Have you decided to completely abstain? Many here try to moderate and while some are successful, I think you will find the majority have found that it's all or nothing.

Others will come along with more advice - links to helpful information and so on. We would love to have you join us in nest.

Again, welcome and looks like you've already figured out that we are a caring, supportive bunch here. :h

      Nike,:welcome:

Well, I take it that you're selling your wine because you have a problem with alcohol? Are you trying to quit drinking? Here are a couple of links to helpful places on the site. The Newbie's Nest is full of people fairly new to sobriety and trying to stay that way. The Toolbox has helpful information relating to making a plan to stay sober, things along that line. Be sure to scroll through it because things get buried. If you're planning on moderating there is a thread for that too although I don't think it's very active (you can access it from the front page).

Let us know more about you.......lots of people here to help.

        hi Nike,
sounds like an impressive collection. In my drinking days i would have drank the $5000 bottle with no apprehension or care about how much it cost. are you planning on stopping completely?

          Hello Nike,
Wow, $5000!??? That right there shows the willingness and ability to remain AF. I'm sure i would have guzzled as much as I could pretending I was enjoying it when in reality I would just get drunk.
Good for you. i'm on day 5, been struggling for years! We can do this!

            Hello & welcome Nike!

Congrats on your 4 AF days :goodjob:
            Glad you found us!

Getting rid of all the wine in the house is exactly what I did too (although mine was relatively inexpensive & went down the drain). That & a vow to never buy more really helped me a lot.

Wishing you the best & please join us in the Newbies Nest!

Thank you Lavande (that's french!). I am now on day 5 AF (I figure that means "alcohol free") and am feeling good, proud and less scared because although this has taken me many years to do, I find that it is not all that dreadfully difficult. But it is a full time job. I have spent the last 5 days concentrating on keeping my resolve to not drink although my husband drinks. I spend alot of time on mwo and it has been incredibly helpful. I am reading the book I got online and doing alot of research on withdrawal symptoms. I am hoping that the craving/obsession over this will subside so that I can get back to my daily obligations. For now this is my priority and my resolve is firm.
              Thank you.

I give you my former boy scouts honor promise.....your urges will indeed come fewer, and farther between AND they will be easier to ignore. It will just take a little time....the start up is the worst, but get over that hump, and you'll be very glad you did

:welcome: Nike, just the thought of sitting on top of a cellar stocked with wine is a nightmare. My obsession and compulsion will drive me to drink it all - $5000 and all.

Anyway, this is a great place.

                      Hi Nike!
I'm glad you've joined us, this place has been awesome for me and a HUGE part of my recovery. I don't even remember how I found this place, I am just so thankful that I did! Your cravings and obsessive thoughts about alcohol WILL subside, but don't get discouraged if it doesn't happen quickly. Remember, it took most of us YEARS to get to where we are, so it's not going to go away overnight. Just remember that your thoughts are only that...thoughts. You don't have to act on them. You don't ever have to drink again, even if you want to. I have 2 sayings that I like to repeat to myself:
                      1) A craving will never last as long as a hangover, and;
                      2) Nobody ever woke up in the moring wishing they drank the night before
Hang in there, you CAN do this!

Not really Ishy, The taxman was about to take it all anyway, just as well that it served that purpose. Yes, it would have been a waste to drink. Ok, we're arm-in-arm... hang in there.

Caper, Yes, me too. Friends that offer us nice wine usually ask how we like it and I think to myself, who cares, as long as I get a buzz. Might as well drink 2-buck chuck. But now I save the 2 bucks and buy vitamins to have with my milk-thistle tea.

Thank you for the links Unwasted. No, I am not trying , I AM quitting !
Ok, that may sound presumptious but that's the attitude I need. That's how I quit smoking after many years of trying. I just decided to stop once and for all and that's what I did. It actually made it relatively easy because I was not constantly torturing myself over wether or not to light up. I did not throw out all my cartons of Marlboro's til long afterwards. I have to have that same resolve now because everybody here drinks everyday. And I cannot pour all their wine down the drain.
I posted a profile picture that represents what my life has become (a wreck), for many reasons but alcohol hasn't helped. I will post a resume of my descent into drinking later. right now I am concentrating on something else!

Yes Jolie (that's french too). So hard but feels so good!
