Did you lose weight after becoming AF

To start off with, i staued the same weight as you need to eat sugar and lots of it otherwise you get the sugar withdrawal. Its more important to be sober so try not to worry about your weight. Best thing to do is get a few months af and then start thinking about a diet and exercise plan. Not only did I lose weight, I now stay a stable 8 stone but I've been sober for 1 1/2 years. Work on the sober part before even considering to diet. If you diet now you may slip! Good luck xx

The reason I asked, although it seemed pretty obvious that I would (lose weight), is that I've seen some posts where ppl were concerned that they were gaining weight
after quitting. I hope like hell I don't get any bigger!!!!
Library Girl-I think we are all different where this weight thingy is concerned. We have many things in common-but our bodies are different and how we drank and what we ate etc. are different. I'm one of the ones that was too thin while drinking but put on weight after. I don't care! Being sober was my first priority. I think if you start walking or do a sport that you enjoy-and add fresh fruit and veg as much as possible plus loads of water for now-you'll be going in the right direction. Just take little bitty steps -ODAT- and you'll be grand. I wouldn't worry about any drastic changes for the moment. :l

Yes, I see that, and it makes common sense, lol. I know a lot of my weight gain had to do with alcohol. I was a normal size before I started the daily drinking, and it also contributed to me not caring about what kinds of food I consumed, or how often I exercised (never).

Here's to a slimmer me in the future, or at least an AF ME!!!

          I didn't lose weight initially because I substituted M&Ms for AL :H
Then 3 months later I quit smoking & gained 13 lbs. - ugh!
I have since lost those 13 but still want to tackle another 10-15. It just takes a bit of time
          AF since 03/26/09

I lost about 40 pounds. It took about 6 months AF and quit smoking as well. I exercised about 5 times a week though. It was really what I needed to do to change my life at the time. Since then I put 10 back on and then lost it again. Loosing it the second time seamed harder. I'm 5'6 and now 140. I feel pretty good here. When I go lower then 140 I think about food a lot and feel hungry all the time. I like how my cloths look but I seam too focused on body image for some reason. The initial weight loss took a lot of hard work but I think I needed the endorphins and anything sugary made me feel strung out. I cut carbs down and cheese. I love cheese... but really I was so sick of being sick and tired I felt desperate to get healthy. I started out just walking 30 min a day at the gym.. then built up to a boot camp. That was fun. I'm not sure what I feel like doing next as far as exercise goes... somehow I got into a rut. But I'd hate to gain again as it seams harder and harder to loose... I have heard quitting smoking slows down metabolism... not sure.. it could be my age too I'm 38. I miss the days of eating whatever I want. I think if you eat healthy and do some exercise just even walking around the block it will help kick start feeling good.

I have stayed at about the same weight, but I now consume dark chocolate daily. I had the habit of substituting al for meals, so if I was on a bender, I would actually lost weight. I am 5 feet 110 lbs. I could afford to lose 5 lbs but am not too concerned. What I have noticed though is that my weight may be staying the same because I am building up more muscle due to exercise. Muscle weighs more than fat, so what you might want to do is not notice the number on the scale, but rather, see how your clothes fit. I'd say that in a month or two you will notice a big difference!

When I stopped drinking I was under the impresion that the weight would just fall of me,I actually put on 8lbs :-(. It was only after I got into a fitness and healthy way of eating that I seen results.

I have seen this topic come uP from time to time-- many stories of those who lost without trying-- I think Mollyka lost like 60 lbs in a year and I know Rubywillow lost a ton. Some folks don't eat when drinking but like you-- it promoted poor eating and no exercise for me-- I had gained a load with pregnancy -- like 80 lbs but lost 40 and had not lost anymore due to daily drinking after. AL slows our metabolism so that is a double whammy! I am sure you will lose through abstaining if you just make sure not to sub food for booze-- good luck

Since I've quit, I haven't instantaneously lost weight - if there has been any junk in the house, like chocolate/crisps etc., then I've been shovelling it down (even had a year-old easter egg I never opened and a Terrys chocolate orange from Xmas 2009!!!!)

Thankfully, all my chocolate/Xmas biscuits and crisps are now all gone, so the only thing I nibble on now is LOADS of fruit, plus I'm gonna stock up on Ryvita for those 'hard, savoury snack', cravings.

Think I eat at least seven pieces of fruit per day now, I actually seek it out, LIKE it, when I was drinking I had an aversion to the stuff.

Two days without any choc and my waistline is beginning to minimise again, just as well 'cos all my trousers are a 32 waist!
[I]Quit drinking nightly at home (8 yrs) at the end of Feb. One night out 8/4/2014...I am ALLOWING myself to drink when on a night out, just cos I want it that way.[/]
