    What do you drink instead?

    Hi everyone
    This is my second serious attempt at going AF and one of my main struggles during the witching hour , or two!! Is what to drink instead of all the glasses of wine I was drinking? In my successful AF stretch previously I drank alcohol free beer which I found a reasonable substitute but I can no longer do this as I can no longer have gluten . I'm not a big fan of soft drinks (had ginger beer last night but made me feel a bit bloated and don't want to drink this every night). I already drink too much tea and I hate coffee
    Can anyone help with suggestions?I can't really change my evening routine a lot because I have young children and spend most of the evenings the house on my own when theyre in bed as my husband works away a lot.

    What do you drink instead?

    Have you tried lime and soda water, with fresh lime slices? I find it quite good as its not too sweet and doesnt bloat you. Have you tried alcohol free wine? I havent tried it but might try soon...

      Hi Sausage...it's challenging for me as well...I don't drink regular or diet soda........what works for me is plain selzer....I used to spice it up a little with a splash of pomegranate juice...but now for quite awhile my drink of choice is about 3/4 selzer and 1/4 san pellegrino limonata...

      I'm not into sweet stuff....I found that I drank ALOT at first, and now, I don't feel so obsessed with always drinking something....I have water during the day, and maybe only one or two of these drinks each day...experiment with things added to it to find something that you like...

      I think it's important to find something that you like at first and something that you can drink as much of as you want - to get through those first tough weeks. It really will turn out to be a temporary problem as your thinking eventually shifts from wanting "something" to drink all the time - to wanting something to drink when you're thirsty. :-)

        Cranberry juice & club soda or water with a lemon wedge. Herbal teas are nice too for a cold snowy day.

        Slip on the weekend but tried too moderate!
        AF - Sept 24, 2012 (get back on the headaches not worth it)
        Slippery slope Oct 1 ..... Trying to not give up!

          How about anything without alcohol? When someone gives you lemons make lemonade.

            My latest favorite is something Timpin recommended on another thread. Black Currant and soda. It's not as sweet as some other juices and tastes great with Soda. It really helps me during the witching hour, too as it's something I like to sip rather than gulp.

              What do you drink instead?

              Pallet upon pallet of the seltzer water.....I get the plain style and then do as others, add some fresh cut lemons or limes.

              I used to drink beer, so its a great substitute, its almost got the same "texture" so to speak.

                What do you drink instead?

                Hi Sausage, you know sometimes cravings are precipitated by our just being thirsty so keep hydrated. Personally I drink buckets of chilled water with freshly squeezed lemon and ice, elderflower cordial, blackcurrant cordial, orange juice, cranberry juice, red grape juice (not wine haha) sometimes diet coke and I just bought some pomegranate & beetroot juice today, hope its nice. The list is endless and most of them do you some good.
                Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

                    decaf Tea and orange juice mixed with club soda... yummy

                      I think seltzer is the best thing mixed with anything. No calories, no bloat. I also drink some of the diet Snapples, there is one that is half tea, half lemonade. Tasty! At one point I had a lot of diet tonic water but burned out on it.

                        I'm struggling with this too. I'm fed up of tea/coffee/coke/sprite/juice/squash. Fresh sliced lemons are good for me in either hot water or sparkling water. I've tried the alcohol free stuff in the past when trying to quit, but it just left me feeling 'cheated' so I'm not going with that this time.

                        As someone else said, I'm so full of liquid at the minute as I'm drinking so much fluid, just to be drinking something. I'm glad to read that this eases off in the end!

                          I LOVE Tonic water. It tastes "adult" to me and has less sugar in it.
                          I have been juicing the past two months. Apples, pineapples, beetroot, carrot, cucumber, celery AND the most important ingredient is fresh ginger.About two 10cm roots. It burns different than artificial ginger.
                          The downfall is that it takes about 45 min to make it...
                          But now, after two months of it I feel like changing it - so I'll try some of these suggestions.

                            Some useful ideas I'll give a try to on here, thanks folks and if you think of any more keep them coming. Someone on another thread I think, suggested ginger tea rather than ginger beer (think they lived in USA) not sure if you get that here in UK but I'll have a look. Will investigate other teas I think.
