    hello, newbie here

Hi, I've just heard about this website and I'm interested in joining an online community for alcoholism. About me, I've just entered my 6th rehab (outpatient) and I'm finding it's not working for me, having problems with my HMO not offering the treatment I need. I'm seeking an inpatient detox and after which, I would prefer to take a more homeopathic route. Trouble is, my HMO has rejected my request for inpatient detox, I've even been to the ER to see if it would put me on the fast track into inpatient, but was refused treatment because I was not yet 'seizing'.

It's incredibly frustrating because I find that I need to drink simply to ward off the withdrawal symptoms, but I don't want to drink. I was advised today that if I feel severe w/d symptoms to go to the ER, but I don't want it to get to that point.

Does anyone on this forum have any suggestions for dealing with HMO's? I know the treatment I need, 5 day inpatient detox, which is covered in my plan, but they have rejected my request 4 times in the last week. I simply cannot stay away from the liquor store, and because of this my HMO will not even prescribe my detox meds.

Am I just being a baby? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

      Hi E,
I'm not much help with HMO info as I'm over in Europe. But, I wanted to welcome you!! This site may be just what you're looking for.. a more homeopathic program if you want supplement and hypnotherapy suggestions. I'd suggest you start with downloading the book and keep reading the posts!! There have been several written about withdrawal symptoms that might help too. Some folks advise to wean yourself off alcohol, others like myself, just do it and feel like absolute crap for about 3 days. For me, it was alot like a baaaad case of the flu, but I did get through it. Funny, it's one of the things that really helps me get through my cravings to drink now.. I've just gotta remember how awful that was and it helps a ton.

Anyway, you've made a great start. Now you need to think about whether you want to go AF (alcohol free) or try to Moderate. The book will help !!

          Hi E11spark & :welcome:

I'm sorry I can't help as I h ave no experience of HMO's, but I have to say that you are definitely not being a baby!!!!!!

I'm told that it is dangerous to just stop without medical help, and I did mine gradually, Last november when I joined here, I was drinking all day on my days off and as soon as I got home on all my works days and was drinking 3 bottles of wine everyday .... I gradually started drinking later & later & gradually less, got down to one bottle in december and have been AF for 19 out of the last 21 days in january.

Baby steps and the support of all the lovely people here really helped ....

All the best on your journey, Love & Hugs, Paula xx :h :l :h
