Alcoholic Church Goer
Hi. I grew up in a pretty strict pentecostal church. I have been hiding my drinking for some time now. For me, it started back in 1999. I started buying half pints of Southern Comfort and drinking it in my car, while no one was home, etc. Today, I've graduated to Absolute and/or Grey Goose with anything or on the rocks. And it's not half pints anymore. Pints, Fifths --- I am afraid of what I am right now and I am afraid that it will never stop. I have not sought any cousel from my church because I do not want to be judged for my problem; I want to be helped. I have actually showed up to work one day about a year ago, completely drunk, staggering through the halls and in the parking garage... I am amazed they did not fire me on the spot! I am still completely embarrassed by that day, but no one asked me about it or anything. I need help. I just don't know where to turn. So, here I am --- I came across this site and am looking forward to making a connection.need a hand up - not a hand outTags: None

Originate, welcome to the group! Sounds like you are hurting right now - but take comfort in the fact that everyone on this website has been in the same place and can relate to your story (I was a Vodka man myself).
You will find nothing but support from everyone here, and reading the posts can be therapeutic in itself. If you have not yet, I would encourage to read the MWO book, as well as Allen Carr's Easy Way To Quit Drinking. They offer insight and ideas into why we do what we do to ourselves, as well as ways to overcome it.
Best of luck to you.Sobriety Date: June 15, 2007 -- "It's not having what you want, It's wanting what you've got...."

Hello Originate,
Alcohol does not care what race you are or what religion you are or if you go to church or not...It can get you.
The fact that you are searching for help is the first great step and being here can be just the thing to get help and support. There is a lot of help and understanding here.
Down load the book, and read, read read the posts...ask questions
Thats where I am right now and getting ready to start this program as outlined in the book.
Welcome and good luck...come here oftenControl the Mind

Hi Originate. Welcome to the site. I have only recently found this site myself and I find it a great source of support. I wish you well and I completely get the fact that you hide your drinking problem. Dont beat yourself too much. We do enough of that. This is an understanding and non judgmental space.
changing.

Welcome to the site.
As the others said, you'll get lots of support here. And no one here is going to be judgemental, believe me!
You've already made the connection to this site so you're over the first hurdle. The work episode is more alive in your mind than your co-workers. Most will have forgtten.
It's just what happens to us that looms so large and formidable, and we keep on replaying it and replaying it, till it dominates. Then the guilt comes in to play, then we can REALLY beat up on ourselves. So try to put that behind you where it belongs, and use all that powerful energy for positive things.
Rocky and Athlete have just about said the rest, so welcome once again

Hi Originate,
I am also fairly new and have found this site to be very supportive. I keep thinking all of these people are just like me, I am not the only one that drinks too much. I have read many posts and found them all very inspirational, everyone on here is great. I know you will like it here where you are not judged.
:welcome: good luck.
