    I want out!

    Hi everyone.

I've been drinking for the past... I don't know.. 12 years? And nowadays I feel like I dislike myself more and more, especially the next day after I drink.

Just last night (i.e 12hrs before this post) I was out partying with my friends, we had 2 bottles of vodka and yeah, I couldnt remember how I got home. I checked thru my mobile phone's msgs and I was like "did I send that?"

I hate this memory loss feeling. I want to quit.

I told myself I quit smoking, so I can quit drinking too. But this has proven to be a very tough hurdle to cross..

    I need help

Hi Sypisfurn and welcome. We all know that feeling you describe! I'm on day 14 of quitting so I'm quite new (this time) but some people have been here for years. You can do it, it just takes some work. Come over to Newbies Nest and get to know us, loads of info all over the boards too and great to talk to people who know exactly what we're going through. Also can I suggest reading Jason Vale's book "Kick the drink .... Easily!". Several people here suggested it so I got a copy and it's helping me LOADS! Take care and look forward to getting to know you.

      I want out!

      Welcome Sypisfurn!

Yes I hated scrolling through those text messages too... And then having to spend ages trying to convince my brain that it wasn't that bad. I hate emotional, anxiety hangovers!!

I can really relate to the feeling of disliking myself. It is SO GOOD when you don't have to do any of that any more. I'm at 5 weeks, my longest quit ever (spent the last 5 years learning that, ummmm.... can't really do that moderation thingy) - and at 5 weeks my self-esteem is already better than it has been for a long, long time.

Big hugs to you and luck as you move through these early days of sobriety!

        Hi Sypisfurn
        Welcome!
I was a daily wine drinker for years and can so relate to your story.
I see you have found the Newbies nest - it is a great place to be. I second what willow has said about the Jason Vale book.
        A couple of other things of help also;
Check out the Tool Box - you'll find it at the top of the Montly Abstainance section - lots of ideas to help you.
Also watch the Rain in my heart documentaries on You tube - there are 10, all about alcoholism.
Look forward to "seeing you" around.

Hey Spy, it sounds like you may be indeed be getting ready to fight this battle. Like you say, it is not easy by any stretch, but it can be done.

By the volume of booze you say you are drinking, it sounds a lot like me, and it sounds like things will only get worse. One day at a time, you CAN get some sober time under your belt. This will help you get some clear headed thinking.

Don't give in to those cravings. Urge surf the craving, it will pass like a wave in the ocean.

You can do it, you are worth it.
