You're Right Not Many Quit 1st Time
It works however I want it to work hon. This is not AL boot camp. I come here for support, not instructions on how to count sober days. Sorry.
Also my signature is not dishonest. I do have 30 days done. I haven't added anything since that day.

Some of us just believe that if you drink you go back to day one....you believe what works for you x"It's not your job to like me, it's mine!"

Woohooh LG - I agree, this is NOT bootcamp, and it's not AA, and the MOST IMPORTANT THING is that even though you had a drink, YOU WERE BACK HERE AND BACK TO YOUR COMMITMENT THE VERY NEXT DAY. After all I've been reading, it could so easily have been the beginning of a slippery slope, but I don't at all get the impression that you're gonna let that happen. So, keep counting those days, keep patting yourself on the back and keep on keeping on!!! It's a normal human thing to give in to something we know is not good for us, but the mentality that this is "bad" and that it negates all the previous 39 good days, is not going to be really motivating, is it? Best thing you can do for yourself, I reckon, is to learn from it, forgive yourself, and love yourself enough to do what you need to do to be here today, and then again tomorrow, and the day after that etc etc....If you always think what you've always thought,
You'll always feel what you've always felt.
If you always feel what you've always felt,
You'll always do what you've always done.
If you always do what you've always done,
You'll always get what you've always got.
3 Days AF = DONE
6 Days AF = DONE
14 Days AF = DONE
21 Days AF = DONE
28 Days AF = DONE
30 Days AF = DONE
60 Days AF = hmm, much bigger gap to this goal, but let's see if ODAAT works for this one too....

I'm just glad you're back LG! I knew people would disagree on the "counting" rules. Maybe "it" doesn't work like that in AA or wherever, but here it can work any way you want it to. The important thing is you picked yourself right up and came back!!

Have no idea how it works in AA, have never been. I did say fair play to you initially LG for getting back on the saddle and not letting it turn into a binge. You have proved to yourself you can do 40 days so you know you can do it again.
However way you want to count your days is up to you but people WILL give their opinions, as you said it is a support group and thats what you are getting whether you like the replies or not.
Best of luck."It's not your job to like me, it's mine!"

Well LG...a little bump in the road is never fun but the important thing is you got over your bump and back on the straight and narrow road. You did great, you admitted it and now banish it! Every day counts and every day is a new day. On ward and up ward my friend. Good for you for staying strongHoneysoup

Ive never liked all the day counting, it seems to me like some kind of superiority thing or I am missing the point. I am back at day 2 but I dont know if I will carry on counting, and before I had that bender I had around 6 months but didnt know what day it was when I had stopped that time, I was too ill and confused to be checking the calendar. I truley and totally wish I hadnt gone and drank but I did, but I can still pick up from what I had done in my life over the past months, that time hasnt just dissapeared because I drank

Yep you're right .
It's a superiority thing.
Yep I was feeling really superior when I gathered all me pills together on 5th July so I could get out of this hideous circle of alcoholism once and for all. Luckily my husband came home early or I wouldn't be here today.
Yep I was feeling really superior when I sat in the doctors on 7th July 2009 crying and snotting all over him begging for yet another detox.
Now I don't often get angry but this has really pissed me off.
None of us long term abbers will forget the day we went AF for whatever reason. We have been on the whole in some very despairing places and if one of us can save any one of you from going there we will try our damnest. It could be worse, I could be filing.

No one's trying to take away anyone's sober days. No one is saying that this is not a life and death struggle for some. What I don't understand is how someone else's signature or how they choose to count their days of not drinking affect anyone else? If it's not a superiority thing, then why harp on it. This is MY life and my gullet I'm not throwing alcohol into, or am. I want you to be concerned about my HEALTH, but not about how I COUNT my days or what I choose to WRITE on my signature.
That is all.

If you want to say you have 40 days LG, feckin say you have 40 days....getting sober is all about being honest, especially with yourself. Thats the point I was trying to make. To make light of your "slip" "blip" "bump" or (whatever excuse you want to use) is also up to you.
To be honest, it would answer you better to explore WHY it happened and look at what you were doing that did not actually work rather than be flippant about it.
Yes, it is you who poured the drink down your neck, the reason I did answer your post was out of concern for your health and i gave you my imput. In my experience, being honest with oneself is paramount, I know because I wasn't very honest with myself in the beginning and I did not make any progress until I took a good look at myself and made some changes.
I have seen you get great support all over MWO and to be called superior is a kick in the gullet for some.
Maybe you should just allow the people that agree with you on your thread, the never mind, poor you, thats ok that you drank etc etc
Count whatever days you like but when you put a thread out there, do not expect everyone to agree with you. We all have opinions."It's not your job to like me, it's mine!"

OK things are snowballing here in my opinion, people are for some reason getting very stirred, I think maybe it is one of the failings of online forum kicking in, which I know has been discussed before. Things would be very different if those involved were face to face.
Why it has raisin such a negetive storm in some, well I don't know, maybe some need to have a look at how they are feeling in themselves today, forum topic aside
It's just getting a wee bit uncomfortable and unhelpful, just my opinion and I want to send big love and support to all out there,"When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it"
