You're Right Not Many Quit 1st Time

In the year 2011 I had 257 sober days. I never said they were continuous, in fact I often stated they weren't. But that's how I felt like phrasing it "257 sober days in 2011".

I think some people consider it "cheating" if you don't count them all in a row. Personally, how other people count or don't count doesn't really matter to me. It just reminds me of a bunch of 5 year olds sitting around screaming "Cheater! Cheater!"

Count how you want to count LG. The bottom line is I'm proud of you, either way.

You're Right Not Many Quit 1st Time

Thanks for all the support. Just to be clear, I haven't made "light" of my slip, drink, skid back into alcoholism, if you want to call it that, or whatever it was. I don't make light of the fact that I drank for 30 years and was raped while drunk and lost my virginity at the same time at the age of 15. I don't make light of the fact that I nearly lost my job of 24 years due to AL, I don't make light of the fact that I went through two divorces (mainly) due to AL, I don't make light of the fact that I wrecked and hit a tree head on while drunk, I don't make light of AL, PERIOD.

I CHOSE not to wallow in self-pity for making what I consider a small slip, and I contemplated skipping over that one day, in order to embrace the 39 days I had been AF. To me it's much more discouraging to start over on day ONE, as if the days you were sober and worked hard to achieve that sobriety meant NOTHING.

I will say no more on this subject. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I never expected this thread to turn into a brawl over how you count your AF days. If I am at fault or seem to have deliberately offended anyone, for that I am truly sorry.

          LG,

Once again I'll say how great it is that you have decided to get back on the wagon.

This argument about counting day one has gone on for longer than I've been here and at the moment that feels about a 100 years.

And thank you for sharing. I'm a victim of rape myself and I know how truly dreadful it is. You have my utmost sympathy.
