for the rest of my life I want to be sober

    Message for Arial

    Thanks Arial

I don't have too many regrets about my past drinking with my daughter - like many of us, I have tended to protect her from my addiction. I have always been there for her and we talk fairly openly about things. But now that she is a teenager - its no longer possible to hide my alcoholism & of course Mums can sometimes be No-Go at that age. She is very anti-alcohol and drugs (they do a lot of education about that in schools here although it often falls on deaf ears). Her dad (my partner - we all live together) also comes from an Alcoholic genetic background - like me. My childhood was physically very violent - not directly at me but between my parents (but thats for me and my therapist). My Partner just recalls a drunk Dad (ex World War II airplane fighter in the Pacific) never being there for him - (ie he was physically there but not mentally). My partner knows he could easily become an alcoholic but only drinks in rare moderation.
Oui - its on to the future and a sober one at that!
