K dog :welcome:- I don't know much about librium but do know that it's used to help people taper off alcohol. You might want to post in the Meds section.

    Best to you.

      just want to stop

Thanks, I'll do that, right now I drink about a 6pk of tall bud light a night, and sometimes more. I work full time and don't drink during the day on a normal bases, occasionally on a day off though. I used to be so full of energy and enjoyed so much more in life, now I just feel depressed and anti social, don't know what happened to my life... I have a wonderful husband of 27 yrs, 3 grown children, 2 grandkids and no reason to be in the mess I am in.
Just any advise would help, I am scared of the withdrawal, and thats why my doctor gave me the librium, just scared to start!:new:

        Hey Kdog,

I have never used Librium, tried Baclofen, but the higher the dose went the worse the fatigue became (one side effect) to the point where I couldn't keep my eyes open. At least you have the support and guidance of your doctor.

I am where you are now, and I'm scared to death too - I think the fear we feel is that our lives will change so much for the worse - marriages will crumble, friends will abandon us etc, whispers behind our backs, though I am at the point now where my health and happiness is far more important, and the reality is that those fears are just that.

We will learn to deal with the partner still drinking (well mine will anyway, doesn't like to think he has a problem, even though he drinks way more than me) and we will forge new friendships with people who are non or light drinkers. Won't be as scary as we thought.

Hope you feel that way too and we can do this together :l

          Hi kdog,

Glad you are here! You've made a great decision to kick AL out of your life, I'm so glad I did. I am thoroughly enjoying my 3 grandkids today, so I am grateful.

Quitting can be a bit frightening but remember the end result is worth a few days of discomfort. AL really is a poison, just keep that in mind. I found the MWO Hypno CDs really helped me change my thinking

Why don't you reread the MWO book to help you get started (you can download it from the Health store here). Then go to the https://www.mywayout.org/community/f1...box-27556.html & use the great ideas in there to help you make your plan. A firm commitment, a vow to buy no more AL ever & a well thought out plan helped me reach my goal. You can do it too

Drop in the Newbies Nest thread for more support!
          Wishing you the best!

Thank you for your responce, I think I'm going go for day one on Monday and take it from there, I know exactly what you are saying, my husband is also a daily drinker, but it doesn't seem to affect him at all, but I do think if I quit he might do it as well. I have a ton of support from my son and oldest daughter, just need the mind set to do it I guess! And yes we CAN do this! Do you have any withdrawal symptoms? I get the shakes...

Val, I never did get the book, So I will give that some thought as well, trust I have read a ton of others though, and even the AA book, joined an outpatient addiction program, but everyone there, all I enjoyed don't get me wrong, was freshly out of a 30 day program thus 30 days done with the drug of their choice. It was more for people that are trying to stay that way, and the majority of those people were court ordered into both programs. I was the only one there on my own accord and didn't feel like I was getting the answers I needed to get clean, if that makes any sense. But the more I read, the more I want to stop, and still be around for my children and grandchildren, because if I don't stop...
                  ty all for listening.

                    Hey Kdog,

I don't get the shakes at all, I just get fidgety the next day when I really want a drink.. I have started drinking soda water with lemon juice - cause I am trying to give up sugar - and AL is loaded with sugar.

Great that you have family support, good luck with your hubby if he chooses to quit after he see's you quit - I know mine will never quit unless the doctor tells him he has to.

trix, thats the problem, I guess you could call fidgety, but then I crave one to stop it! I have gotten past it a few times on my day off recently and really enjoyed my day, but if I give in, its all over for me for the day. Going to give it a shot tomorrow, will let you know, TY for listening!

The librium was given to you just in case you have some withdrawal symptoms. If you can get by without using it or only using a couple of doses I would highly recommend it. Librium is also addictive, and it will make you feel a little drunk.

My advice for you would be to find an activity to replace the time you spend drinking your beer, and find some alternative none alcoholic beverages to enjoy. I replaced drinking with working out and personal improvement. I have read more books in the last 2 years than I had read in the last 10 combined. I found a focus for my life that didn't revolve around drinking. By quitting drinking I have improved myself and my life immeasurably. So much personal growth has happened that it is unbelievable, and I am a different and better person for it.

Good luck, you can do it.
