Just for Men Who Are In Recovery

I am doing very well with Roberta Jewell's program. My husband hasn't accepted any sort of help and is still deep in the drink. He called me today and apologized and said he will stop drinking. We ALL KNOW! that most can't just STOP without some sort of tools.

What worked best for you? Did any of you get help through the vitamins, Topomax, Hypno stuff, or is that just for women?
I will be sober so I can be clear and remember being a mommy and so I can be in the best place God wants to place me. I will be here! now! FREE! 12.5mg Topamax AM&PM, Ativan until safe from withdrawal syndrome & for anxiety. Thank God I Am Done!

      Hi Rainyday,

I'm a man, and from what i see, Roberta's program, CD's, vitamins etc, would apply and be very useful to blokes too. I suppose there could be small differences in what vitamins might help best, but overall, the tools we use to help get us sober, and remain so, apply to both men and women generally.

The biggest tool of all (apart from maybe me lol), is that we must want to change within ourselves. In my experience, i must want to change within, and take personal action to change. No-one else could make me do otherwise, until i was ready. Pointing him in the direction of some useful tools and reading etc, which it sounds as if you have done, is a start.

Best wishes on your journey, and make sure you take care of you.

We must protect our sobriety at all costs.

I'm as wise as a horses arse RD! One thing i do notice around here though, is that our journey's (men and women), are very similar in as far as getting sober, and staying sober goes. I wish your husband all the best.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, and keep up the great work yourself.

So far all Ive used is the very strong desire to never put my wife through anymore nights of me being drunk. Let me preface this by saying, I was never abusive, physically or mentally, but according to her, I could get a bit "demanding", and I used to just say the same thing over and over.

And that is just so not who I am. I used to also take way too many sleeping pills to get to sleep...she was always worried about how I acted and how I was breathing.

This board has helped a lot, I find it very helpful to talk about where I am now, where I was, and what I did to get here. I can only hope that someone can use what I say to help them in their journey.

I say use whatever tools or combo needed to keep the devil juice out of your body....but it can be done on willpower alone.

Rainy day, I'm not a bloke, but a woman in a very similar position with her husband, as a lot of women here are. cant say what would make my husband give up, but he did give a daily 30 year coke habit, because i was going to leave. he did it on willpower, and having a few slip ups.

My father was a severe alcoholic, and gave up, he tapered down, took no drugs, and told me he was bored with it. A lot of people give up without drugs.. Jason vales book is very good, and may be a help for him.

People say you have to give up for yourself, i don't know if that's true, I think most people give up because they are going to loose something they value and love more than alcohol, whether its there spouse, children...career, girlish figure

good luck with it, you have my thoughts and prayers.

PS, my husband is like Nelz was, bloody annoying))
