Repetitive 'quiter' and 'mod-er'; is modding possible?

    Repetitive quiter cont'd....

Great answers all. Doesn't it make me/us see that we must all have the same 'condition' But its not really a smiling one at all....Lilly, I see your goals, seems wise to trickle down to a quit if you can handle it...I think we are on the same page. I am not going to say 'I quit' again though until I really KNOW it is so this time.... Happy to meet you all and join with those who are giving it there best.

      Hi Sheepish,

I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in too, I can't moderate either. I tried for a long time, I tried all the tricks everybody else mentioned. Nothing worked, I always ended up drunk, every day. It really is much easier to not drink at all, as weird as that sounds. No more inner battles for me. I was an all or nothing type of drinker, and "all" stopped working for me a long time ago.

I wish you the best! Keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks Destiney! Will do! And you too. I've been a bit out of the loop but are you posting over on the Newbies Nest too? Great group over there if you're not already.

K9, that makes perfect sense to me and is what i'm coming to realise. AF ultimately had to be easier.

Repetitive 'quiter' and 'mod-er'; is modding possible?

I am totally sober now, up to the bigggest bottle they had at the liquour store a day. I tried to moderate, it never worked for me, my body was so used to that much AL that i would shake even drinking a fifth for the night. I never liked the taste of AL but it did temporarily releive my problems, but like everyone says there still there the next day. Just one day at a time works for me. Cravings kick in all the time, it such an easy way for me to get out of reality and fogret things and I do stupid things, I dont miss the hangover the next morning, I had many relapses Id quit then start up, still after this long the anxiiety still lingers and cravings.
            I wish everyone the best.

Repetitive 'quiter' and 'mod-er'; is modding possible?

              I can't mod either
1st quit - did 108 AF days, then tried to mod - back to old levels within days
2nd quit - approx 58 days, then drank every day on holiday
3rd quit - 256 days then started drinking again after a champagne toast

Then it took me nearly 3 years to find the strength to attempt

4th quit .....on going - currently on day 81

I can't mod for all the reasons others have given you. It is just such hard work and causes even more anxiety and guilt.

              One other thing I wanted to add;

Even if you were able to mod, and not many people can, you wouldn't feel the true benefits of an AF life, these being, clearer skin, eyes, more energy, probably weight loss, less bloating, and most important of all a clearer mind, less anxiety, - from about day 60 AF I've been able to really sort out in my mind the things i cant change from the things I can, and for someone who was previously a compulsive worrier, this benefit is priceless.

That's it then....I'm on board. Day 1 and the last Day 1...

it is. Thanks all for reinforcing what I know inside. All the tricks end up the same...if I could moderate I'd have never ended up here! I love the idea that it is ultimately going to be easier to NOT DRINK then to limit my drinking. So I am saying it today, will look for all my new friends on other posts and keep you up to date. I know I'll have to make myself some lengthy reading materials to carry in my pocket for difficult times. Happy day!

And sausage,,,I can't wait for my skin to be as nice as it used to be, my sight to improve (yes, I'm convinced its worse due to a), my weight to get normal - I'm an eating drinker and have added 30lbs due to wine excess, and energy! Imagine energy! And having a clear mind is priceless....Thanks for the reminder of who I used to be. That's a good one for my carry-@ list.

Molly - You are really speaking to my heart. I have been trying to moderate since 2009 and the internal dialogue that you express in your post is me, exactly. I am so tired and frustrated. I have been back to day one more times than I can count. The guilt, embarrassment, remorse, anger, and sadness is overwhelming. Thanks for saying it so clearly. Today is my day one again. And today is all I can think about right now. I would love to be "content". I know that for me, moderation will not work. I must stop.

Hi LillyE....I am glad you did well today. I had a couple of temptations but I thought of everyone here and managed to get through it! So day 2 AF is DONE! I do post on the Newbies Nest too. This site is so confusing and I have a feeling I am posting all over the place....but I guess that's better than not posting at all! Ha!
Congrats Sausage on day 81....that is awesome!
Thanks to everyone here....you are such and inspiration!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am heading to bed and looking forward to another morning with no hangover!!!!!

Good morning all here - Molly, Dest, Getting there, good we're together, K9, 1toomany, sausage et al - and thanks so much for sharing. I can now return to this - as well as other places - and reread (rather then re-peat) why modding hasn't worked for me for years and I'd just end up struggling more and thinking about wine more.....oh. And if anyone can direct me to toolbox that would be great. Can't find it!

thanks again all. I have lots of good reading for the difficult times. I can learn so much by seeing what others who have the same problem have done to succeed and handle the process of getting there.
