Repetitive 'quiter' and 'mod-er'; is modding possible?

I tried to moderate my drinking to a few beers, could never really feel anything so i would just end up buying a pint of rum then lasted for 2 days one pint each day then needed a fifth another 2 days later then it turned to the largest bottle a day. so i have to be strong and fight the urges i get everyday everyday still after all this af time not too long but still thought those cravings would have passed. nope thats just me i wish everyone luck its so good to wake up to no hangover

Great thread! Moderation did not work for me. Of course I had to try it for myself. The beast kept calling me back and I thought, well I made it this far so surely I can now moderate. Moderating was exhausting to say the least! My thoughts were always filled with alcohol. I started to drink more and more and my levels of intake dramatically increased this last year. It was harder than ever to finally get myself together and quit the madness. The few days or weeks of uncomfortable cravings were nothing as bad as having the guilt and shame alcohol brought. Life is SO much better without alcohol!

Waking up feeling well and not guilty and not thinking about alc all the time sounds amazing...I think its all a setting of the mind. I'll keep all updated on my modding/quitting and keep reading. Well done AlmostFamous....100 days coming up! And the time of constant cravings in the scheme of things is nothing indeed. I find that all my researching and reading has started to actually make me not like the drink...I feel the poison in it. Night all

            Hi sheepish and all here.

Great post and you have fantastic advice and support here.
Really hope I get back on here and see you all stay AF together.

I dont believe if you have a problem with Alcohol, you will EVER go back to moderating, and if you do, it will be so much more difficult than abstaining.

As tough as it is, a sober life is a better one than drowning your sorrows in poison.

            Hope all are well.

Just thought I'd chip in - I'm begining to accept that moddings not happening for me either, after trying it for 25 years and failing miserably :H Oh well, at least we can laugh (:upset. Only day 2 for me, but I'm at that stage where i've decided to give it up once and for all, the hardest bit I reckon is starting, so scary. Nuts when you think about it - that's what AL does to you - the biggest con artist in the world. Already feeling a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders, deep down I know this is the right decision, just so worn out with thinking about drink - over it big style.
Love strength and peace to all you lovely people x

I agree...thinking about drinking is draining. It's so much work to drink. From making sure you have enough to get through the night, to getting rid of the empties the next day...to rotating liquor stores (I never wanted to look like an alkie you know)...it's so exhausting! Not to mention the physical, mental and emotional toll it takes on you. Being sober is so much easier!

LOL! Yep! I'd start thinking about it around 3pm every day, "now lets see, where did I go last night and the night before? oh yeah, tonight I'll go to...." And I'd drive WAY out of my way too. Like the guy at the liquor store REALLY cares? They just want them dollas! lol

I've tried modding as well....epic fail! I just end up drinking more and more til I'm right back at the same point. Hell, I've come to the point that just one glass of wine makes me snippy and short. Glass two I get a little happier, and then it is all downhill from there. So I just have to find the strength to keep going and abstain completely. I am using the vitamins and I think they help, but I think they give me gas...LOLOLOLOLOL! Thankfully, I work in the hospital where bad smells abound. But my stomach just rumbles and gurgles constantly! Haha

Omgod Cat! HaHaHa.....Which vitamins are you taking??? I take L-glut, B-12, Milk Thistle, and Kudzu. When I started the Kudzu I had the same reaction as you!!!!! Just blame it on the dog...I am a vet tech...but in your case you can blame it on the old person that just walked by! LOL

Modding so does not work. Your brain tricks you to think u can do it, I know I definitely can not do it.

K9- are you still taking the meds? Does it work for you?

                            Thanks

Oh dear moderation definitely does not work. I've been trying a combination of AF then I can just have one and yep I'm right back at ground zero and fed up with the cycle (since 2008) I can't drink one it leads to more I just need to accept that and be at peace with the fact alcohol is a dangerous substance for me that I just cant do. oh day 1 hear we go again. I dont think moderation is possible at all

Repetitive 'quiter' and 'mod-er'; is modding possible?

I have modded "successfully" since April. That is, I was able to drink on 4 occasions without overdoing it. I am committed however, at this time, to being AF. I don't think modding works, or at least not in the long run. I can see myself getting straight back to drinking every day, and so I haven't drank again in 19 days, and only one drink the last time. I feel certain that if I were with other people and there was a large quantity of AL available, I would get rip roaring drunk. Therefore, my conclusion is that moderation is not an option.

P.S. My skinny sister (105 lbs soaking wet), who also enjoys red wine on occasion, had this tidbit (about food): Everything in moderation! Easy to say if you've never had a problem!!! With AL and food, for me.
