Help, I'm a train wreck
Please try and stop - you sound like someone I know (not me) - who said to me "I don't want to die". I care for this person very much. They were desperate to stop and have put up an almighty battle - I feel so sorry for them but so relieved they are not giving up giving up. Me? I'd hoped to report that I was on day 3 again but unfortunately I had a bottle of wine last night - so it is one or two days off and then one or two days on - a bottle of wine each time but my head is done in. I've seen some dreadful things over the years that have happened to people I love - alcohol is insidious - it creeps up on you and it's a long time after its stopped being fun that you become aware of this. Please try . . . . . PxShort term goal 7 days AF

Help, I'm a train wreck
Good for you! Sorry but your mom had to go to bed last night!
I'm really happy to hear that you poured the vodka out. Can you find L-Glutamine where you live? It will help with your cravings. I'd also change up your routine. If you normally start drinking when you get home from work, find something different to do. Go for a walk, go to the gym, just something different.

Help, I'm a train wreck
Hi Scottishman,
I just wanted to throw my support in here. I agree, you did a good thing by pouring the vodka out. Your body will start to heal once you stop drowning it in alcohol. I know it's not easy to do at first, but it will get easier. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

Help, I'm a train wreck
I am in awe of people like you Scottishman who can suffer through the withdrawels and keep trying to conquer the beast. You have lots of support here (as usual for all of us) and I feel very happy for you that you are putting your efforts into saving yourself from this disease. All the power and strength to you!!

Help, I'm a train wreck
Hi SM -
Listen to Mom and try to get some sleep! Good job not buying any more booze, it will get easier each time you don't give in. Now get some rest!

Help, I'm a train wreck
It takes a while to sink in ...I think even if we saw it written in the sky we would ignore it. ALCOHOL IS THE PROBLEM! I am amazed at the meds I am off of since I went AF!! Now I just take a dam vitamin! If you can give yourself 3 days...we'll help you carry on the rest of the way. Get all the AL out of the house and make a policy with yourself of zero tolerance. We all know you can do it, just gotta get your head right. Today is the best day to start!! Byrdie

Help, I'm a train wreck
Welcome
Glad to see you here - and hope is what brought you here, so yes, it's still there! Waking sober is so fantastic - you'll be proud after all you have achieved in the last day! It would seem that you're at a crossroads now with two options - you know where one road is leading, but the other is as yet unknown - what you can anticipate, though, is a journey full or potential, hope, opportunity. Keep your eye on that road and your first steps will head in the right direction. 6 months is a great achievement, and you can do it again - and this time you can just keep on going!
I agree that will power alone will only get you so far. Use whatever it takes to help make this a permanent change. Many people here join Al Anon, or if you want something more private - support from your local GP + meds, read the book, even try the hypnotic tapes. Read the 'toolbox' thread on the weekly abstainers forum (top thread) for ideas, develop new routines, try to develop new habits - sport is a great boost to morale and keeps you busy! Lots of great info and great support here, so jump in with both feet - Good luck and look forward to seeing you around...:rays: Arial
