Hi Warren,

Effexor was dangerous for me as a drinker, because as it lifted me up it made me feel sociable and wanting to be the life of the party. And since all I could associate that with was drink, it just made me want to drink more.

I'm taking prozac and drinking. Do u guys think it's the anti-depressanst that can actually augment our urge to drink? I think I'm more addicted to the feeling of feeling goot and be sociable and numbed that's why i drink. If not actually i wun drink.

Effexor and my girl friends drinking really dont go together. Her pupils dilate and she loses her inhibitions. She seems obviously 'on something'. I wouldn't advise it/

I was on paxil and it definitely made me want to drink more. There are actually studies done that show a strong correlation. Also if the drinking is cut down, I find the depression gets better. To take antidepressants and continue to drink heavily defeats the point of taking the medication.

Well... I started on Effexor about 5 years ago... In that time and until 19 days ago...I drank heavily at night (6-10 double or triple shots of vodka on the rocks)

I really do not know if/how Effexor impacted the drinking or visa versa...

This is day 19AF for me... I am still very tired, but certainly have more clarity during the day, easier to get up as each day goes by. Effexor does help with anxiety, stress and depression. Stress that might upset you to a level 10 on a 1 to 10 scale probably rates a 5 or less...

I plan to get off it but with everything going on at my house right now the Doc. does not want me to...(nor does my wife)...

I was a lunatic when I took effexor and drank. The effexor made me manic and I wanted to drink to excess and be the life of the party everynight - only I was a complete lunatic everynight. I was absolutely out of control on it.
I wouldnt ever want to go through that - or put anyone through it - again.

A friend of mine took Effexor and like jenneh the reactions were extreme. it is a very strong drug.

Hey... yeah me again... I took them all... huh...

Prozac still made me want to drink at much but I saw the world through a vaguely dazed state.

Which was nice at the time, made everything not so raw. It didn't make me better, though.
