This is great. I was never too sneaky. Usual stuff. Wine in the coffee cup. Yup. I do hate the open floor plan where there is no separate kitchen. We move lots. I like a separate kitchen to drink, i mean cook in.

This is a great Thread! and yep I can relate to all that hiding stuff! Reading the threads is sad and funny at the same time. The things we drunks do and the games we play with hiding what or how much we drink is just stupid. Mine was allways to race off to the bottle shop everymorning, buy more Gin and top up the bottle from the night before!!! Oh and yes have a quick slurp at the same time! :thanks:

Tried as I might, I never was able to outwit my wife at this game. The ONLY pint bottle of vodka she was never able to find was in the back of my dresser. She figured out under the seat of my truck pretty quickly. She even figured out I was keeping empties hidden in an unused basement refrigerator and charcoal grill. Couldn't conceal them in filing cabinet drawers or even my briefcase. I guess living with an alcoholic teaches you to think like one, too.

Dave, You have to be the new winner of "most elaborate and/or creative" schemes to hide your drinking! What a lot of energy we had to put into this!

Shueaddict, when I read your post I could perfectly imagine the scene with you and your girlfriends wanting to touch your handbag What did you do next?

This marks the end of day 9 sober for me! Anyone else relatively new and AF who wants to celebrate?

In a flash of inspiration and rare moment when when my blackberry was not in my hand I said i forgot my phone in the car and dashed to stuff the bottle under the driver seat.

                Hiding our drinking--please weigh in!

This thread is inspiration for me to post again. I don't really have any stories to top the 'hiding' that others have posted about. The common strategies that we have independently arrived at are ironic aren't they. I can really see that in retrospect some of it is quite funny.(I need to get to that retrospective place.) I particularly like the need-to-recycle aspect and the hole in the purse lining (wish I'd thought of that.)

My latest event - the one I'm will hoping will finally turn my head around to the right place - is that my 11 y.o. has confronted me with my hidden drinking. Found my bottles and written notes on them, i.e. 'just stop.' Sad that it has come to this - know many of you can relate to that. Liath, thinking of the AA route. Know I probably need the real person interaction.

Meggie, I'm drinking about 1.5 liters gin or vodka per week. Drink what I drink quickly, usually at the end of the day to get the familiar escapist buzz. What time of day I start is one of the things I 'control'.
Drinking has been my hobby for several years now. It's time to get a new hobby

Liath! I am so proud of you! Day 9 is quite a milestone. Over in the Newbie's Nest...I try to pull nesters to Day 3...that's when AL is totally out of your system and you are operating on your own power. Then I encourage with all my might, to get them to 7 Days...this is big too, because you have conquered every day the week can throw at you, including the Hour of Doom...Friday night at 5!! The next milestone, at least it was for me...was Day 13. I had gotten to 12 days twice over the course of a year...but I just couldn't get past that...it seemed impossible. But the last time I did it...and for some reason, when I got to that day, the waters parted and it seemed as if this was something that I actually COULD do....the task was no longer impossible!! From this day to Day 30, your emotions will be all over the place...and the pity party is thrown....don't fall for it. Everybody else is NOT drinking...the free world WILL go on if you don't join in!!! If you have a bad day, I will guarantee you the next one will be better. I never had 2 bad days in a row. I am so happy for your decison to cut the head of the beast off!! Once you come to terms with it, it really does become easier to accept. Not one....Not ever! So far so good...I am sober a year and a half! And loving it...if I can do it...you can do it!!! Stick with us. B
All you gotta do, is get thru this day. AF 1/20/2011

Luvwins- Hey, you should give AA a shot if you can't quit on your own. I could not. I started going to meetings and meeting other women with some sober time and I have found an amazing support network that is keeping me sober. Also, it is nearly impossible to quit if you don't replace drinking with some other activity. The program and its 12 steps is a wonderful alternative to picking up a drink, and actually gives us the tools to stay sober. I have said this before, but if any of you can quit without AA, nice work! But I cannot do it without physical interaction with other alcoholics.

Byrd-- Thanks so much! This really is a big step for me! 10 days AF... and not wanting to go back to that dark and incredibly lonely place ever again.

Amazingly, I don't regret anything I have done in the past 10 days. THAT is freedom.

Hi Shue, you could have written my sketch...Used to drink vodka... and yet in the open world used to say couldn't stand the stuff and preferred Scotch.Bottles under the seat in the car, you would not believe the number of places to hide empties in a car, hidden in the garage in all sorts of weird and wonderful places..empties in tins of paint under cupboards, buried in the garden contents of bottles swopped over , the list is endless. Then comes the moment to get rid of them all.At times the hardest part was remembering where they were!!

Hey Mick-- Burying them in the garden, now that is creative! Hopefully it was just the empties... I can only imagine having to dig up the garden trying to find my 'stash'!

Well all of these funny/sad stories will hopefully keep us sober another day. Day 14!!!
