I just know that I can't cope with not having any that's all
So you perceive the pain of not drinking as greater than the real pain of drinking? I feel bad you are having issues with staying sober, but you were able to stay sober for a couple of weeks. The problem is you still want to drink. Don't get me wrong I stayed on that path, (knowing I had to quit but not believing I could never drink again), for many many years. But eventually you will come to realize as we all do, being completely sober is really the only option if you want to be happy. Moderation will never bring you happiness if you were a problem drinker. Good luck.

Supercrew - you hit the nail on the head and you are so right....I am getting there, wish I was not kicking and fighting the whole way, but I am - I know the end, just struggling to get there...thank you for this, it was as blunt as I need right now, thx“The only courage you will ever need is the courage to live the life you want"

Hi Scotlass. I was just thinking the same thing today. Supercrew you have hit the nail on the head. The pain of not drinking is a delusion, whereas the pain of drinking and moderating actually is the real pain - will I, won't I, how much, can I trust myself to stop and then to be unhappy at the end because either I get blotto once again or plain didn't have enough to get my fix....
Being sober is really coming out the winner for me - I feel only the pain of the moment of wanting a drink. Once that passes I never wish I had one. I have messed up but even just a simple discussion like this really can help clarify things....
Scotlass, that was good medicine for me too...hope you are doing ok.IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO BE WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE BEEN
Relapse starts long before the drink is drunk!!.Fresh Start!

Quitting drinking was hard.
Getting 2 DUI's, paying $20,000 in fines, and doing jail time was harder.
Just sayin'
Sending strength to everyone.

AL is like a stray cat...if you feed it, it's yours. We are problem drinkers, wouldn't you agree? Haven't you tried this entire past year to live with AL in some way? Haven't you tried and tried to make it work and it just won't? None of us WANT to go AF....every single one of us want to be the one that can have that occasional drink and not give it a second thought...but we are not. You have sought out an ALK site and been participating in it for a year....are you beginning to see the trend? WE can't drink normally! We already drank our fair share and some other's too. We are past that point now. Some of our nesters are having great success with Antabuse, would you think that's an option? Just to give yourself a chance to succeed? I've seen you write on here time and time again that you are sick of this cycle...don't you want to get off and get on with your life and family? Is AL THAT important to the exclusion of all else? Because I'm convinced that it will take all. AL wins every time. Can you acknowledge that AL IS the problem? Byrdie

Indeed Byrd - well summed up!
Daisy, I feel so good today - so much better and I am focussing on that! On my drive home from work today, I was thinking of AL almost all the way, but able to think about signing on here and about how much better I felt. I hope you are doing good too...“The only courage you will ever need is the courage to live the life you want"

Well done V - we are in same time zone, so a little ways to go, but I am locked up at home now and will not find any reason to go out, and therefore I will wake up feeling so good in the morning!!“The only courage you will ever need is the courage to live the life you want"

I'm with ya lass.... Hubby just got home we are still not out of our funk from tiff this weekend and there are two shots of whiskey in freezer and to be honest the Only thing stopping me from doing them is that it is not enough.... I well I will use that reason for now and work in a better more solid one for next time!!!!And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back so shake him off ~ Florence and the Machine
