Annoy away Pooks!!
Well I managed to break the bottle habit last night, I am so pleased with myself, I think I had a real mental barrier as it was very hard to do but I measured out 75ml of wine and chucked it down the sink, I am staying at this level over the weekend as that is my hardest time and then Monday i will reduce to 600ml.
The anxiety is back a little this morning but thinking it is due to a henna booking I have this afternoon - I always feel nervous leading up to it - and also my second AA meeting this evening, I am trying to relax and keep calm!Taking it ODAT

Mauri, I am so glad to hear you are making progress......and very impressed that you are going to AA meetings. I haven't been brave enough 'yet' but do like to hear what others think. You sound really good - imagine, from here on, it can only get better!IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO BE WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE BEEN

Thanks Daisy I was very nervous going to the first meeting and more so for tonight as apparently only around half a dozen people go to the Friday ones (there were around 30 at the Monday one) so there will be no place to hide and I may have to actually tell my story :egad: I will let you know how it goes!Taking it ODAT

Hi Mauri - like Jackie, I'm so happy to see you doing well. :-) Just wanted to throw out there that anxiety would make me drink too, so I did sometimes take a Hyland's Nerve Tonic or another "calming" herb from the health store - during the day if I was feeling nervous and felt like drinking to calm it down. :-)~
Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.

Been to my AA meeting and feeling very positive still although it was rather upsetting as someone shared they had tried to commit suicide and since my father took his life 18 years ago it really phased me The meeting was a steps one and they were focusing on steps 4 to 7, I don't really understand all the steps yet but the shares were still interesting and the speaker was great, very amusing in his tales of his past al life and also very poignant. I have borrowed the 'big book' so I have plenty bedtime reading now though I did feel a contradiction in terms bringing it home alongside my bottle of wine!!
Successfully poured away my 75ml, tomorrow will be the last night at that level and then I will be on 600ml for 3 nights, I am getting worried about how I am going to cope but trying to focus on my desire for sobriety and on my health and planning to go to two AA meets a week every week, also got my assessment appointment on Monday. My major worry at the moment is it is my birthday next week and my hubby and I are going out for a meal and staying over in a hotel, this would usually be licence to get completely trollied but I am so determined to stay strong, I should be on 500ml by then so thinking of maybe having a glass before we go out and one with dinner. We are going to see if we can go to the cinema after dinner instead of pub crawling, it will just be too much temptation for me, I am so grateful for having such a supportive husbandTaking it ODAT

You'll be grand, Mauri. Look at how well you've done over just this week.
Mr JC and I went over to Carlisle to see Michael McIntyre, just 10 days after I went AF. It was cracking. Neither of us drank, mind you we did feel a bit guilty about the amount of teas and coffees sachets that we had to keep going down to reception we picked up.
It's great that you're thinking of non-AL things to do.
I'm thinking perhaps not drinking at all on your birthday as a nice treat for yourself, then getting up mega early and having a fantastic breakfast. It could be worse, I could be filing.
AF since 7/7/2009

Mauri, its my birthday next week too. I know I was kind off putting off my start date because of that - then I thought, if I keep doing what I'm doing, what shape will I be in by the day it arrives? I know what the answer to that one is, so I have just got my day 1 completed. I really do want to be sober again and know that if it isn't my birthday, then it will be a Summer barbeque or just about anything else that will keep me from getting on the right road.
Tonight was a bit of a bummer for me. Went to a local gala where there was a carnival parade and just about everyone I know was there, having fun and drinks and the atmosphere was great. I had a little twinge of jealousy thinking 'why did today have to be day 1?' But, after a few hours I went home and left them to party on down......I am really glad now and already grateful.
I can really empathise with you....you are making great progress and setting yourself up for success.IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO BE WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE BEEN
