When you have a CRAVING, what does that feel like for you?

I was talking to a friend IRL last night who has just gotten out of being hospitalized for detox, and he was telling me that his cravings were making him so crazy he was thinking he needed to check back in... WOW! So I asked him what exactly was he feeling that was making him feel so DRASTIC?

He told me his cravings are like horrible panic attacks that can start in the morning and last all day. Which made me feel extremely grateful, especially now that I am finally back to getting some sleep, because now mine are simply an impulse I sometimes get?more of a fleeting thought that flashes across my mind when someone or something is highly irritating to me... so I find it best at this point to avoid annoying people and not to post anything political on FB. :H

So anyway, when you have a serious craving, what exactly does that mean, and what are you feeling, and how do you diffuse it? I am especially curious if you have a method other than using a big dose of L-glutamine.

My cravings are usually just thoughts...they pass quickly. The more sober time you have, the quicker they will pass. When I first got sober I would dwell on drinking for hours, now I accept that I thought about it, and quickly sweep it out of my mind. And beer commercials drive me nuts! There's this one on the radio that sounds so serious, for Platinum Bud Light....I swear, you'd think they'd discovered the cure for cancer...when all they've done is come up with a new brand of poison. Geesh!

Remember that no matter how your craving feels, it will never last as long as a hangover!
