    Breaking bad habits

    What do you do during that time of the day or night when you normally would drink? Have you developed new activities, rituals, or hobbies to fill that time? I've started drinking coffee and tea during this time which has taken the edge off but I know I need to figure out some other ideas.

    Silversage, how many days have you been AF? I just do the same things that I always did but without AL. If I get real on edge I have a non AL beer because I hate beer but it takes the edge off. I haven't had to do that for over a week.
    AF since 8/29/12 Goal 30 day-screwed up on day 9
    AF since 9/9/12- Goal 30 days

      There are thousands of things you can do during your old drinking times.....
      Plant a garden or take care of the ones you already have (my favorite)
      Paint a room, paint a picture
      Read some new books
      Spend time with young children
      Pick up a new hobby
      Make a gratitude list

      In other words - do anything you want to do, just don't drink

        I go for a run, walk the dogs or bake something. Those things usually work to distract me.

          Oh yes the toolbox! I thought I had seen something somewhere but couldn't find a thread! I've been AF for just 6 days. In the past I've gone up to two weeks or just around that and long ago a month. The time of evening between late afternoon and dinner is a struggle for me. I'll look in the tool box again too! Thanks guys!
