Today is day 11 for me. I find it so interesting that usually time flies by for me, but these first days of January are creeping by sooo slowly. I am impatient to hit day 21 as I have read that that is when an old habit is broken and a new one begins.
I've been drinking too much the past 7 years. I miss waking up full of energy. I miss the freedom that not "having to drink" gave me. Recently I go to work, come home, start dinner and have 3-4 glasses of wine. I love the numbness..but I have decided that to give up my freedom in order to satisfy being a prisoner to nightly drinking is not a fair trade. But the decision to stop is a lot harder than I anticipated. I've tried and can only make it to three days then I go back. So day 11 is giving me hope that I can do this.
I have been reading many of your posts and find them so helpful and kind. To all the members who have been sober for a long time and are still willing to share and give people like me hope...THANK YOU!!!Comment

Hang in there Mema! There is still only 24 hours in a day, but it is amazing how many extra hours there are in the day when you stop drinking. Extra hours where you're not mindlessly lifting bottles and glasses to your mouth. Extra hours where you're not passed out on the couch, or still in bed the entire next morning just wishing the damn headache would just go away already. Extra hours where you're not driving to the liquor store every night to stock up before it closes, or coming up with new hiding places for the empties. Time only feels like it's slowing down because there's so much more of it for sober you to enjoy and live your life to the fullest.
Want more time in the day to actually get things done? Quit drinking.11/5/2014
