This is awarded for making a decision, a plan, setting a goal, and sticking to it. There isn't one single day of the week that can kick your arse now. You have proven that you CAN do it!! In our world, this is a huge achievement. Here's to many more moons of freedom!!!

'Free at Last, free at last, Thank God Almighty, Free at last'.....
These words send chills down my spine, even to this day. I'm not sure if this is what you had in mind when you chose that screen name, but it is fitting in so many ways. Freedom from the chains of addition is monumental. Being in the prison of addiction is incapacitating....and yet it is of our own choice. You chose to break free of this prison and have lived 30 days in the sun. We are so proud of you. Not only have you taken help from this site, you are always one of the first to offer it. That's what this community is all about....
With great pride, I give you this hat!

Thanks, all, for your words of encouragement. We all know 30 days is a great, first milestone on our way to a truly joyous AF life. Brydie, I chose my name with MLK's speech in mind -- I think we all probably have something that is keeping us in chains -- mine was (note the past tense) wine and champagne. The people on this site have been wonderfully supportive and I could have not come this far without your encouragement. Thank you.

Jetlag is getting the best of me -- meant to say "first of many" milestones in the above quote.

But, while I'm typing away I might add that when I started the "on being joyfully AF" thread, I was working toward three months of sobriety before my 55 birthday. My DH and I had a good long talk about my goal of being sober before my birthday and my drinking and I promised that if I couldn't reach two solid months AF, then I would take antabuse to help me get past what I knew would be some difficult periods (e.g. two week holiday with AL in my face every day, a long stint on the road with limited support systems).

In mid July, I started the AB, and it has been very helpful for me. It is helping me quiet the voice that says, "Come on, one drink won't hurt you," to gain the AF time to really see my addiction for what it was, to begin thinking of myself as someone who doesn't drink.

I think I had alsway hoped that I could do this on my own, but now I realize that we are successful because we use as many tools as we can make available -- posting on MWO, reaching out to individuals we trust, AB, more selzer water and lime than we ever hope to drink.

Let me end by thanking the MWO folks who posted about Brene Brown's TED talk. Inspiring!
