Who's for prohibition?
Caper:
I'm against prohibition. Mainly just want a "lively" discussion, as Jackie said.
In terms of gun control, I understand your point. And I know my view is in the minority. I'm coming from a mental field point of view. Schizophrenics who are paranoid can easily get guns and because the laws in United States protect their privacy rights, if they don't think they have a mental illness, don't report it, go get a gun and to a theater, shoot my son and other innocent people, I'm not going to be happy about it. The mentally ill patients sometimes can be dangerous and unpredictable, it is difficult for us to protect the public when they have such easy access to guns. Now I'm not saying all psychiatric patients are dangerous. Majority aren't. But some are and that minority can kill. And if they happened to kill someone I loved, I'd be devastated.
But lets bring the conversation back to alcohol. The correlation here that is all freedom to do anything has some cost to society. And I don't want this to be a personal attack about my knowledge about the history, which may or may not be lacking, granted. .Alcoholic (or Ally)

Prohibition would only cause (among other things) a rise in crime. We need only to look at history to see what happened with the first Prohibition. In the 21st century, the effects of such a movement/law would be astounding. Needless to say, it would never, ever pass.

Library: totally agree! It seems like very few people are in favor of prohibition. In fact, very few countries are.. So that's tells us something.Alcoholic (or Ally)

I was utterly shocked when I found out their primary addiction.

Who's for prohibition?
I don't think there should be prohibition and I think weed should be legal. I don't drink or smoke weed (anymore ). I use to smoke a lot of weed but don't now simply because my husband doesn't. I would if he did. That is how easily it is for me to take it or leave it. Funny that! My hubby is AF now for two years after being inspired by me so I really don't think it would be fair if I indulged in any mood altering when he can't.
I don't think it is nearly as harmful as alcohol to an individual or to society. I think with anything moderation is best and when it's smoked to excess... as I've done.. it caused some issues that were easily fixed by smoking less.
The main reason I say no on prohibition is as others have stated... crime. It won't stop people from using it and it would put too much power in the hands of criminals... just look at how the drug cartels are in Mexico. Scary. Alcohol is so widely used I can't imagine what could happen.
I do think there should be more awareness when it comes to the effects of alcohol.. like what's been done with cigarettes. Smoking those things has become very unpopular and frowned on. They are still legal, but not as romanticized as they once were as being intellectual, sexy, cool, etc...
