    Syke,

welcome to MWO... You have found a great place for getting tolls and support to moderate or quit Alcohol abuse...

Try to get the book (download it on this site) and read it...It's a couple hour read at the most. Read as many posts as you can... ask questions...
to help you cut back before Monday you will need to get a few of the supplements that help with cravings and withdraws...(all in the book) You most likely can get some locally to get started on them asap...

I wish you all the best...go for it one day at a time.

Hiya all.... A new lamb to the slaughter

      Hi Syke and welcome,
I'm going to cut right to the chase on this one, so you'll probably put me on your ignore list.
      But here goes.
One: You won't get dizzy. But if you show up drunk or hungover you could well be out of work again. What would you do if you were an employer and a new starter turned up drunk or hungover after a week with the company? You owe it to yourself and your employer to turn up sober.

Two: Don't be scared about starting your new job, BE EXCITED ! Look forward to it.
You'll be fine. They won't expect perfection the first day, so take it easy on yourself, and see if you can relax into the new job.
Three: Do you just think it's time to stop, or do you know deep in your heart that it's time to stop? The difference between the two is the difference between continuing to drink, and being determined not to.
Four: Lamb to slaughter? What slaughter. That title isn't doing you any favours as every time you read it you are undermining yourself, and making yourself a victim. Same with the avatar. Every time you look at it you're going to believe it.
Five: If you haven't already, make an appointment to see your doctor, explain you have a drinking problem and need some help. Topa and Campral are the drugs of choice here. You can read about them and others in the RESEARCH thread.
We a(MWO'ers) also can't recommend too highly taking the supplements, AND THE KUDZU. Gee it is good stuff to help ease cravings. Have a look in the STORE at the home page. And then buy the book, My Way Out.
Six: It's the bottle of vodka you're throwing away, not the towel. You'll need the towel to wipe the sweat off your brow after doing aerobics with your new found release of energy!
GO FOR IT. But go for it just one day at a time.

              :welcome: Lamb

agree with Rags - ditch the "slaughter" rubbish and start thinking of lamb as a metaphor for spring / rebirth ... y'know, positive stuff!

I'm just guessing here, but you might find going from a bottle of voddy a day to zero is tough work without some serious back up. You will get a LOT here on these boards. But you should also see your Dr and familiarise yourslef with the whole MWO programme. In the meantime you can buy all of the supplements recommended in the programme in Holland & Barrett - go out right now and get them! They will help you start winding down your alcohol intake and prparing yourself for Monday.

Different people apply different elements of the programme here, acording to what works for them, but a positive mindset and mental preparation seem to be key, as do logging on here and posting posting posting!!

Good luck and hope to hear from you soon, K

Welcome, and I have to agree with Rags about the slaughter - I thought your title was going to read "new lamb to the fold". There's no slaughtering here, only open arms and support! Read as many of the posts as you can and read the book. I'm taking supplements but not the meds. You have to do some research and talk to your doctor to find out if the meds are for you. Good luck, check in here often to let us know how you're doing, and best of luck on the new job! Don't ever give up, just keep trying.

i agree with kate, see a doctor for some med to help you wind down, just not drinking any after a full bottle of vodka a day could be dangerous,if you cant see a doc in time.maybe try to cut a 5th out each day.good luck with the job,let us know how you get on, on monday:welcome:
