Welcome aboard! You have found a spot with a wealth of information, and people in the same boat as you, wanting to control their drinking. Some dont drink at all, and the others are in the "moderation" threads.

Wishing you all the luck, strength, and knowledge needed to realize your goals

EDIT: You may want to read up in this section, it talks about meds Topamax, Campral, Naltrexone, Baclofen, other meds - My Way Out Forums

      Hello, Audrey:

Hope topamax works for you because many have found it helpful. Check out the link Nelz mentioned and there's quite a few success stories there. Welcome and good luck!

        Welcome Audrey 1984!

I had the blinding headaches and it was HORRIBLE! No one else ever mentioned that particular side effect. Nothing made it better, except time. It took several days to go away, then I felt totally weak for a bit afterwards.
Plus, I had not noticed any diminishing of my desire to drink, only that I could not really TASTE anything, including liquor AND food.
So I threw the Topamax and the MWO book in the trash...now I wish I'd saved the book, but when my head hurt so much, I was not thinking clearly.
And I wish I'd saved the book because, IMO, Roberta Jewell's program has really worked for me, and only the Topamax was to blame for my headache.
The CDs helped me change my mind, about my supposed "need" for daily drinking, the supplements helped to repair my body, and the ideas and info on this forum...especially the ideas in the thread called the Tool Box, which is listed in the Abstainers section, all helped too. Retraining my brain has not been an easy task, but it has been a most worthwhile one.
good luck on your journey! and, Happy Halloween. FFP

Hi Audrey.:welcome: We have a 30-day abstinence challenge in the mods section if you're interested. I don't know how long you've been AF or your plans for the future. Lots of different threads to check out on MWO. Have a look and hope to see you around!

              FFP: LOL!

I have heard some books could cause headaches as a side effect, but I haven't heard the MWO book could. Interesting!

                Hello Audrey 1984 :welcome:

I have been on the programme since August 20th and am taking Topiramate. I have not had any ill effect from it. I know that we are all different and drugs can affect us in different ways. However, I am wondering where you are getting your topiramate from, are you getting it from your GP or on-line? Some on-line pharmacies cannot be trusted. I did get mine initially on-line from River Pharmacy (the one recommended on MWO) then from my GP.

I also take all of the supplements and drink plenty of water which I am sure helps.

I wish you the best of luck

Some people find it helpful, I know it's hard to navigate to different forums but do a search look for topamax and you 'll find some people 's success story. I don't know how to cut and paste link otherwise I'd do it for you, scots lady...
