It is taking a while to come to terms with it but I have finally realised that I am an alchohlic. time now to do something about it. with your help I think I can do anything.

          Use the support

          maxman

It is so hard to look at yourself and see that the drink is in control. I like you have so much to lose but time and again I have 'failed'. This time i've listened to the support on this site and forgiven myself seen it as inevitable but not given up. I started and stopped several times since finding this site in November and just started posting but I cannot tell you how much the support helps - use it as much as you can. Not only great support but wonderful advice on the medication side in the other forums

Reading the posts on here help me keep going once I decided to try. You can do it, but it does take time...give yourself a goal to reach and then move on from there to the next...you are not alone and having friends makes a big difference....
today my goal is working out, spending time at the beach, and not drinking more than a 6 pack...wish me luck and back at you & your wife--I'm working on no more hangovers :-)

                Hi Maxman

Althought new to this site, I am not new to trying to stop drinking and stay stopped.

I do know it doesn't happen immediately - however much you want it. If you think how long it took us to get addicted and continue to drink (about 15 yrs for me) we are so used to it and how it makes us feel.

The important bit is that you don't want to drink anymore thats half the battle.

Don't beat yourself up because you need to keep positive to beat this and visualise a life without alcohol.

Good luck to you !! and congratulations - my husband also has a problem but as he is a 'man' thinks he only doing something that all men do - UK culture similar to Aussie culture - makes my task harder - he is no support to me and feel like on my own!!!
                Love S: goodjob:

                  Welcome

                  Hi Maxman and :welcome:

Don't underestimate that first day! That 1 day is 'a big deal' - it's the day that you'll be able to look back on and say that's when I took control, that's when I started to get my life back, - and now the journey begins. A brilliant start so keep up the motivation, keep your goals in sight, your dreams - keeping what I wanted to achieve in sight helped me look beyond the alcohol so the focus changed from the drink to the dreams. Find whatever works for you - it's tough but believe in yourself and your own strength - ditto what was said before - if you want it to work, you'll find a way. So you know where to find us, keep talking and we'll support in any way we can.

                  Here's to day 2!

Maxman- Hang in there and keep trying. It is a long process to overcome this problem . I think one of the worst things we do and which prolongs the process is beat ourselves up after a slip. You need to learn and move on. If you raise the bar too high right off the bat you just experience failure. Make little goals, plod on,and focus on you successes not your failure. You can do it ! Aquamarine

Maxman, go easy on yourself. You won't be getting no beatin' from me boy... just a big warm cyber hug from Sydney instead.

How about heading out for a walk before sunset to clear your mind.

Sometimes I think a metaphoric cyber belting is better than a metaphoric cyber hug.

                                But .... what would I know? .....

I do agree though - now would be a really good time to go for a long, long walk
