I'm new to this site. Was searching online for alcohol related forums, stumbled across this one and thought it looked like a really supportive place, so I joined :-)
I decided just 6 days that, after 20 odd years of problematic binge-drinking, I was finally going to make a real effort to stop. Couldn't face it all any more and it was getting worse n worse. Contacted my local AA helpline, got talking to some people and went to my 1st AA meeting on Tuesday of this week. Finally, I admitted that I am alcoholic.
Today is my 6th day sober - longest by about 4 days since I was a teenager. First few days were tough, but I'm feeling quite positive today, but know I have a hard journey ahead and that I'll need to work at it to stay sober and stop my mindset going back into "you can handle drink this time".
Intending on going back to AA on Tuesday and starting to increase the frequency of meetings and am also hoping to participate in forums like this to gain extra strength.
Anyway, just thought I would say hello - sorry for long-winded post x
