    Start of my journey...

    Hi all

I'm new to this site. Was searching online for alcohol related forums, stumbled across this one and thought it looked like a really supportive place, so I joined :-)

I decided just 6 days that, after 20 odd years of problematic binge-drinking, I was finally going to make a real effort to stop. Couldn't face it all any more and it was getting worse n worse. Contacted my local AA helpline, got talking to some people and went to my 1st AA meeting on Tuesday of this week. Finally, I admitted that I am alcoholic.

Today is my 6th day sober - longest by about 4 days since I was a teenager. First few days were tough, but I'm feeling quite positive today, but know I have a hard journey ahead and that I'll need to work at it to stay sober and stop my mindset going back into "you can handle drink this time".

Intending on going back to AA on Tuesday and starting to increase the frequency of meetings and am also hoping to participate in forums like this to gain extra strength.

Anyway, just thought I would say hello - sorry for long-winded post x

    Hi Jo and :welcome:

This forum is very supportive and people achieve recovery from alcohol problems in the best way for them.

It is usually quite quiet here for an hour or so, then the stateside people come online.

Check out the toolbox for tips and ideas, and jump into the newbies nest which is a great place to get some good alcohol free time.

Well done on your six days, the first week is the hardest physically so be proud of yourself !

Welcome Jo, I am on day 7 AF today. Feeling so much better after going through hell to get here. I to am a binge drinker on and off for the last 16 years. Last time did it for me. Tired of the ER trips and looking like a fool. Glad you made the choice. Best of luck and stay on here for support.

        Thanks for the welcome guys

Since speaking to people in the AA on the phone and at my 1st mtg last week, I have quickly realised that the best support will come from chatting to/listening to/interacting with other people who have the same issue be it at meetings or on forums like this

jjcopper - well done on 7 AF days :-)

I'm actually proud of my 6 days and hope I can keep it going - this is the first Friday I can remember being in work with a clear head, no anxiety and feeling on an even keel. Quite strange, but in a likeable way ha xx
