Point of the story is I wanted to drink to relieve the pain brought up in counseling but I did not give in. I came home made my dinner and watched a movie. I just downloaded to my Kindel the Seven Weeks To Sobriety book, hope it helps me and changes my life and that I will be in the 74%. Thanks for listening.

Counseling and cravings.
Don't know what happened to this post the first time I wrote it but here I go again at a second try. Let me begin by saying I am 11 days sober. Had a counseling session today. Went over feelings and past traumas and my apparent ability to now show mine. Never really understood how one is to tell how or what they are feeling when mine are repressed from childhood. Of course so I drank instead. After leaving the session I had the worst craving in the past 11 days I have ever had. I just wanted to go get some beer for supper and a movie because I felt so bad. I thought counseling was supposed to help me feel better but then again I need to find my feelings and deal with them.

Good job, jjcopper:
Counseling does bring up a lot of emotions that are sometimes difficult to deal w but I admire you for not caving in to the cravings! I had counseling many years ago and it was very intensive and helped tremendously. I hope you can continue.Alcoholic (or Ally)

I to use to be triggered by emotions & counseling sessions sometimes. One reason I drank was to not feel them, to stuff my feelings. Sometimes when we first start sobering up, we begin to feel things we suppressed for years. It doesn't always feel good. Can be scary for some of us.
Hope you let your counselor know that you sometimes may feel triggered by these strong emotions. They may be able to help set up a strategy safe plan to help wards these triggers off. Or perhaps you've already done this.
I'm glad your feeling safe there, that's how it's suppose to be. Very happy you did the next right thing & didn't drink!.... Instead you ate & watched a movie.
Big congrats on your 11 days of sobriety, that's huge!!! :goodjob:
When you log in to the right there's a little box that says remember me, click on it & you will see a check, it will keep you logged in. I still copy & paste my text as I think there's gremlins in here sometimes. :H I can't blame Kuya on this one. Dang it! :H

Counseling and cravings.
As everyone else has said, Congrats and Good Job on making a wise choice. I have always found that I am worse off after counseling than before I went in, but what you have to understand is, like a physical massage, counseling releases the "toxic" thoughts from your brain, and similar to massage therapy, you often feel worse afterward for up to a day. The best advice I can give to you is drink plenty of water and do some light exercise (for both psychotherapy and massage therapy). The exercise will allow your mind to continue to work things through even though you are not consciously aware of it, and your body will release endorphins which will make you feel good and cut down on the cravings. 14 dys sober.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I have started walking the hills where I live and I do feel much better. I will stay will the counseling as I have 30 years of law enforcement PTSD to work through. Having recently retired it has brought all this to the surface. I suppose not working gives me more time to dwell on past events and all the dreams. I used the drinking as an escape and it got out of hand. No more I feel too good waking up clear headed and ready to face my day. I firmly believe I took my last drink Nov. 17, :wow::wow:2012.
