Perhaps the best compliment I've ever had...

So, over the past 3 weeks since quitting, as well as feeling so much better internally and mentally, I've been noticing some improvements with how I'm looking - less crows feet, clearer skin, healthier looking, few pounds less around the trunk etc etc.

It's been nice to have had a couple of people here and there actually commenting that I'm "looking well".

However, last night I received perhaps the best compliment I've ever had whilst in visiting my friend and her 3 wee girls and I thought I'd share...

I went to use her bathroom and could hear the 3 girls giggling outside the door in the hall. When I came out the loo they were egging each other on to "tell me something".

Eventually one of them piped up "Joanne, we think you look like you've been on the "10 Years Younger" programme on the telly - your skin is so beautiful and your eyes are so sparkly." :H

To say it made me smile is an understatement especially their cuteness as they said it giggling etc! Ok, so maybe 10 years younger is a slight exaggeration, but I still left my friends house with a wee spring in my step and feeling good haha

That's so cute! Lovely to hear such a nice compliment.

I'm just short of 4 weeks and only this week began to notice the physical benefits. I initially had an outbreak of spots (never ever get spots normally), which I assume was my body detoxing. But I definitely notice my skin and eyes looking a lot brighter the last few days

It does feel wonderful, doesn't it!

JingleJo.....how wonderful that going AF not only does your insides good but it's reflected on the outside too. I'm only on day 7, so haven't had any outward changes, but the world is looking better to me from the inside.

That's wonderful....even if our appearance isn't the reason that we've gotten to the point of saying "no more"...it sure is a nice side effect of being sober. :-) That's so cute about the giggling girls. :-)

Thanks for the replies guys and nice comments

                      Nelz - too true!

Moni - I had spots too after I stopped in places I've never had spots before (neck and jawline) - think your right, must have been our body detoxing.

Paulywogg - I know what you mean, some of the drunken pics of me are utterly horrendous/scary/mortifying! One of the things I used to notice from really drunk pics was that one of my eyelids would become lazy and droop done. Such a good look! lol

Wagoneer - thank you. Even though it was kids, it made me feel really good lol.

                      K9Lover - thank you

New Day - well done on your 6 days, won't be long before you'll be noticing outward differences too

Alcoholic - "Jingo" - I like that haha.

Lolab - yip, the improvements to my appearance hadn't really crossed my mind and it certainly wasn't a motive for giving up, so it's a bit of a bonus really and even more encouragement to keep going

                      xxx

How lovely. They are also seeing what is inside JJ......that you have embraced and are happy with your choice will show on your face.
The brain is sooooo powerful.....if it is told 'I am glad to be sober' it sends that message everywhere.
                        The reverse is also true
