You get to decide when you get off the bus.....no need to wait for special date. I know that that there are a lot of tips here....you have to decide what is best for you. Read and research.

i want to get off the bus

Hey Time is Now... I wanted to wait until Jan 2nd 2013. But I got off the bus 11 days ago. Couldn't hack waiting and being drunk and depressed for another month. Too much like hard work.

I like a challenge - why not try my first month AF of this new quit in December?! Maybe it's bonkers, but there's method in the madness (or so i tell myself).

As Sun said - you choose where you get off.

Go for it. We're here for you.

If you wait til january what will you gain ?Just more drinking, more hangovers ,more feeling miserable?I think you already know the answer and you told yourself when you chose your user name.THE TIME IS NOW.Go for it .There are lots and lots of us here to help and support you and every one of us have been where you are now.good luck, you can do it.To use a well worn mantra here, you wont wake up on January 1st wishing you had drank more over Christmas but if you had an alcohol free one imagine how good you would feel.

The time is now why wait, I started just 5 days ago and am already feeling better, getting through the holidays is hard but you can do it. I'm trying several different methods to stay off the booze. I'm hoping at least one will be something I can embrace.

In a lot of ways this is an awesome time to quit. To be sober for Christmas, to enter a new year sober and to have the pride of achieving it now will give you a huge kickstart to continued sobriety.

So jump off the bus, it ain't going nowhere cos it is on a merry-go-round that really ain't merry at all.

Good luck and hope to 'see' you soon

Just anted to say:welcome: and repeat what the others have said. Why wait for more misery? Just envision the holidays AF and starting the new year with a new you! I try to hold that thought in my mind for strength.

i want to get off the bus

I made that decision as well and sadly awoke shaky and kicking myself. Today is day one for me and i followed a lot of advice in drinking lemon water. Personally, my hangovers are the shakes, intermittent cold sweats and fuzzy, dizzy head. I don't want to face the holidays like this or another day for that matter. My young son had a school christmas concert on monday and i actually made it. Sadly, I caved yesterday, but am determined to do this. I got the supplements as they are really helpful.

The support here is amazing. Someone pointed out to me that I have been here 4.5 years and only last year did I begin getting serious about quitting. I would do a few months then fail for a few days and start again..each time going longer. This last time it's been a bender and harder than hell to get off this. I can't do it anymore.

I know tomorrow when I wake up i can say i am okay with not having a drink.

Hang in there, you can do this.:l

                    Hi Time!

Sounds to me like you're at the point I was at when I finally stopped drinking...it was becoming harder to drink than to not drink.

Why put it off? If you stop now you'll have a good couple weeks of sober time behind you by the time the new year gets here. I stopped last December 26th and have never once regretted it. You can do it too, and we can help!

Hi k9 yes I thinkiam almost ready to hop off the bus , I guess I hang on to the hope that I can drink in moderation which I can at times , but I am on the bus that keeps me drinking upto 6 beers a day and wine , I never drink in the day and don't stay up late so it's always a quick down the hatch when I get home then you wake up feeling rat shit, I am done feeling like that it is getting to hard, every year I review how my year was and again this year will be the same that f

TheTimeIsNow....I've just been looking back over your posts from the past 3.5 years. If you were someone looking back over your posts...what would stand out to you?

I wonder what changed from your post yesterday to today? Yesterday you wanted off this bus...today you are talking about moderating? Have you not tried moderating? Isn't that what the last 3 and a half years have been all about? If you hold that mirror out about shoulder high and ask yourself the hard questions... I think you know the answers. This 'thing' is never going to just go away, it takes action to get rid of it. Serious action. So if the time really IS now, why not try what has not been tried before? Give yourself 30 days AF....and take it from there. It is NOT impossible, we have folks over in the nest doing it right now. I am one of them. As long as you feed this beast you own it. Trust me, I wrote the book on excuses as to why I was different...but that was 23 months ago...and when I finally stopped bullshitting myself, I was able to help myself get out of that hell hole. Please come join us over in the NN, we have lots of success there! Don't ever give up....I'm so glad I didn't!! Byrdie

TTIN - hey, all i can add (and diss it if ya want) is that it's in you to make the quit. Doesn't matter what anyone says here - it's in you whether you decide to do it. You know that. I know you don't need me to say it.

But if you do decide to get off... then we will all support you - we got your back.

Here's the thing. I got off the bus - and i'll be frank, i'm scared. Day 11 and I'm freaking out at the 'normality' of things sometimes. I'm thinking why the feck did i get off that bus? I don't know this place i got off. I've never been here before, and sometimes really all i want is my creature comforts. The wine. The beer.

BUT i know peeps here have got my back. And I WILL USE THEM - Byrdie, Kuya, Cat the entire Army and many others. I WILL USE THEM, because i do want to make it. I want to get to a brand new destination and the only way to get there was to get of the damned bus. The bus can't drive along my life's footpaths.
