    work dilemma

Yikes - work have just sprung on me that they want me to do a special project for a week or so....urgent. Have failed to tell me what it is yet, there will be a meeting tomorrow to let us all know. As I am a temp at the moment I have little choice but to go along with it as I would like to stay with the company as long as I can.
I hate any form of public speaking, even a meeting of 2 people scares me......this is directors etc.
My usual course of action would be a glass or 4 or vino tonight so I don't need to think about it, but I can't. Am sitting at my desk jiggling literally with fear of the prospect of what it could be....wimp that I am!
Need to find a way to get my nerves under control I think.

Hi Nattie you can do it. Its only fear and feeling out of control!!!

Once you know the game plan for the project do a bit of research and try and giv eyourself a head start to boost your confidence.

I hate not understanding the name of the game. Arriving with a hangover wont work though.Be bright eyed , dress confidently . If you are in area you arent sure of say so and work out where to get support. dont tough it out alone thats when the tempatation to "drown your fears in alcohol" might rear its head..

I can really relate to this ..i did a course and wrote essays on stuff that intially i didnt even get the title. I worked out who in the group was ahead of the game and asked for some ideas and that was it o was able to jump off on my own and guess what i got a good grade.

dont torture yourself with What ifs....they rarely come to fruition.

good luck ...i,m on day 24 and off to the pub for a meal with a friend.Even looking forward to being sober tonight and got the new outfit and lippy on to boosyt my confidence!!

      good Luck

        Nattie,

hi there... I read your post earlier but didn't get the chance to write anything. I was curious...how did things go? (btw - heading to bed now, so if I don't reply for a while, it's nothing personal!)

          work dilemma

          Hi
My evening went ok in the end. I left work trying to feel positive but as I approached the mainline station from the tube all I could think about was the shop at the exit which sold booze. All the way up the escalator "vodka, vodka, vodka" was going though my head. I considered getting a small bottle & smuggling it in in my hand bag (no one would know) and I could have a guzzle while BF was in the bath later on. I managed to walk past & got on my train. BF then phoned to say the duck we had planned to cook had gone off, could I stop at the local co-op & get some mince and we'd make tacos. He would go but had his head inside my tumble drier trying to fix it. I got in the shop & managed to get my bits & not get distracted by the lovely wine offers. I then had to stand & stare at the spirits behind the counter as their blo*dy machine took ages to process my card.
Rushed home feeling quite proud of myself even if a little deflated at the same time.....does that make sense?
I had an ok evening - had dinner & to distract myself a made a Mothers Day card for BF's mum......a small feat in itself as I loathe the old bag & would usually have told him to go buy her a shop one.
Sleep wasn't so good - I went at 10pm but still hadn't dropped off by 11:15....went downstairs for a cig as BF was snoring in my ear (even after violent prods in his side) I had my 2 hot water bottles laying on my feet( our dogs) and I was getting a bit agitated to say the least. Our dogs sleep on the bed but on my side as BF likes to streatch his legs(SO WOULD I LIKE TO TOO !!!!) Think I mananged to drop off just after 12pm but then woke this morning drenched in sweat. DOn't know what that was about - maybe the Kudzo which I started taking last night....who knows.

          xx

Congrats to you for skipping the many temptations (I've actually taken to avoiding groceries that sell alcohol for that reason). Yeah - I'm not on the Kudzo or anything, but I couldn't sleep last night either...When I did fall asleep I had the strangest and most vivid dreams (or maybe they're normal and it's just been a while since I remember dreaming)

            Anyway, go you!!! :goodjob:

            Have a great day!

Hey Nattie - sounds like a pretty darn good evening to me... well, maybe not anything to write home about... but uneventful and AF. So that's pretty darn good. I have had a few "uneventful" agitating nights myself recently, and when I get up the next day I think the best part about the previous night is that I can actually recall it. Excellent work on getting past the temptations. Truly Well Done!

Good at being AF. Not so good at Moderation.

Lots of work yet to do!

thank you all.......it really helps. I think also BF doesn't see it as such a big issue as he will be able to drink at some point on the future - all nice & good for your system to have a little detox but much easier when you know it is not forever.
I DO feel better in myself and I have got though this week so far without a drink. I am personally dreading tomorrow night as it would be wine night. Just trying to think of all the things I may get done Saturday that normally get left cause of hangover.
I keep trying to think what to do though - could clean the house from top to bottom cause it could do with it - but then I usually do that either with a glass of wine of one lined up after as a reward....sort of feet up, cigarette & a tipple.

So funny you mention that Nattie. I typically scrub my tile floors and clean my hardwoods late nights while listening to loud music on the iPod, several drinks along the way. This might sound a bit YUCK... but to reward myself this week, I am just not going to clean them. I am just going to sit back, watch them get a little filthier than normal, and maybe I will tackle them next week.

Ha, ha .......maybe I should go with that suggestion, it sounds like a good one to me ! I am practising the conversation with BF as I type " terribly sorry darling but I am unable to do anymore house work as the drink association is just too much, you will need to do it all from now on"
                    Wish I'd gone AF sooner......!

                      Good going Nattie!

Its amazing how many associations with drink I have - Its a question of relearning - I always cook with a glass in hand or in cupboard if husband home!

It takes the edge of menial tasks.

Hope you are here tomorrow as Friday is my reward and relax after the week with a glass !! it will be a real test.

Don't you feel great that you overcame your fears about work without wine. It makes it extra sweet !!! Go girl!

                      Love
