    2013 Daily Encouragement Thread

    January 6, 2013...Never give up!

Acceptance of one's life has nothing to do with resignation; it does not mean running away from the struggle. On the contrary, it means accepting it as it comes, with all the handicaps of heredity, of suffering, of psychological complexes and injustices.

    ~Paul Tournier~

?Cause sometimes, you just feel tired. Feel weak. And when you feel weak, you feel like you wanna just give up. But you gotta search within you. You gotta find that inner strength, and just pull that shit out of you. And get that motivation to NOT give up and NOT be a quitter. No matter how bad you wanna just fall flat on your face and collapse.?

    ― Eminem

?Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.?

    ~Confucius~

A good link for motivation to win your battle/battles.

    Never Give Up Quotes

Yesterday may have been a bad day, a sad day, a day when you lost a battle, but today is a new day. Stand back up, devise a plan and execute it. I love this one. I'm going to print it out in multiples and tape it around my home.

?You just can?t beat the person who won?t give up.?

    ~Babe Ruth~

      2013 Daily Encouragement Thread

      January 7, 2013...Fight to win!

I'm putting tomorrows encouragement up today from posts on other threads. I may not be around tomorrow much as I have appointments and battles...so, tomorrows is early, but I feel a fighting spirit is good inspiration.

      From RC's thread:
      Quote:
BUT... here's the rub, stopping AL can and may reveal latent anxieties that one may not want to deal with, feel it too hard to deal with, not be ready to deal with. And that's OK. But it is, I believe, part of the recovery to work with and through these anxieties sober to find any true sense of contentment or"freedom" from AL.

The trick is having had these latent anxieties revealed to NOT deal with it by going "fuck it" and buying a bottle.

**You said a mouthful, there! Eeeekk! Oh the things I'm having to address are sadist and frightening in nature to be honest, but you know when you finally step up to the plate and face them, decide to fight them and not give up, there is a feeling of empowerment and control over said issue or issues that feels good. You have to get over the fear, excuses and avoidance of facing the uncomfortable before you can have victory. How many years we waste avoiding...

My new avatar is the new me today. I'm ready to fight the battles and I am going to win!!!

"You just can't beat the person who won't give up."

      From the War thread:

**My avatar and name are testimony to my battle. In my first 30 days AF, I used an Elecktra type figure to fight against my enemy. It helps me to visualize or put persona/reality type figures to my battles. I wage a good vs. evil battle with a sword to defeat the enemy that works to harm me. I have resurrected her in a personal battle that has caused me harm, continues to work toward harming me and has been a trigger for an invitation to AL. Today, she fights to win and will not give up until she has victory.

                January 9, 2013...Fear the enemy

"Fears are educated into us, and can, if we wish, be educated out."
                Karl Augustus Menninger

"If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment."
                Marcus Aurelius

"The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown."
                H. P. Lovecraft

When you?re doing your (really) great work, the universe is working through you. Your job then is to get out of your own way, ignore all the doubts and negative voices, and forge on ahead. Your commitment to living your truth is what makes that possible.

So, let?s just get straight to the point: Fear is what?s making that job extra hard for you?

Fear makes us stop dead in our tracks, and abandon really great projects just at the brink of launching them.

Fear tells us we have to ?get serious?, and not pursue hobbies and other things that make us happy.

Fear keeps us from really stepping into our personal power, and producing our amazing work.

Fear comes in a lot of forms ? some obvious, some more hidden:

                Fear of failure,
                Fear of success,
Fear of looking like a jackass,
Fear of not being able to survive,
Fear of falling on your face,
                Fear of being criticized,
                Fear of being hurt,
                Fear of hurting others,
                Fear of being exposed,
                Fear of being afraid,
                and on and on?

The crazy thing about all these forms of fear, is we?re often not aware of them! The ego finds a way to disguise them through excuses. A common one you may be familiar with: ?This isn?t going to work, because?.? (fill in the blank). Then we get in this perennial loop of needing to improve our most important projects to the point that we never actually have to release them to the world!

99% of this crap is just fear. Eventually the fears manifest into different types of blockages in our lives and we can start to feel stuck or trapped. But, you?re not alone?

In the not-too-distant past I was in a fire ceremony in which everyone had to write down what they wanted to get rid of, and throw it in the fire. The beauty of it was, as we threw our papers in the fire we also spoke the words out loud. You know what shocked me most about this experience? Out of maybe 30 people there, about 27 of them had one thing in common they wanted to get rid of: FEAR.

And can you blame them?? Hello, life is frick?n scary sometimes!

Here?s what I?ve used recently to overcome the fear and get unstuck in producing my own life?s great work: (aka what the universe wants to channel through me, and what I was resisting through lame excuses)

                1. Face the fear ? acknowledge it?s there, and face the fact that you probably need some help to get through it.
                2. Get the help you need ? you can?t go it alone! You need to speak to some friends, a mentor, or someone you can trust about the fear and what you?re going through. If they?re wise enough and/or they know you well enough, they will help!!
                3. Remember what makes you great ? what?s unique about you, your particular experience, and your commitment to your life? Ask yourself. Breathe it in. Let it fill you up. Remember!
                4. Re-commit to living your truth, and letting the universe flow through you. Remember that fire inside there? Find it again, and let it consume you!
                5. Get out there, run around and let off some steam. Move some energy and get back in your body. Do some physical activity that just feels good. Then, go and make some good stuff!
Rule your mind or it will rule you. It is from a thought that an action grows. :bat

                  January 10, 2013

Today's encouragement is taken from the boards as posted by Next, Please. She wrote that straight out of my mind. I have likened an AL addiction to a relationship addiction many times on this board and Next Please did an outstanding job posting this letter. Thank you, NP.

                  Letter to My Lover

                  Hey Babe,

This is really, really hard. We?ve been together so long I don?t know if I can live without you?or even how. Heard from some of your ex?s. I?m sure you?ll find this as shocking as I did, but apparently many find life much better without you.

But still, there?s just something about you that I find irresistible. I know, I KNOW, we?ve had some bad times. The situation reminds me of a line from Broke Back Mountain??I can?t quit you.? Even when I have the underlying desire to do just that.

You?re a good lover. Big reason I?m in this situation. I LOVE hanging out with you on a warm summer day, or in the winter coming off the ski slopes. I WILL NOT. CANNOT. DENY, WE?VE HAD SOME REALLY FUN TIMES. Sometimes I?ve even been too infatuated with you to even remember.

Problem is; I?m growing up, getting older. And while we?ve been operating the fun machine; life is slipping by. I find myself in pretty much the same place you found me decades ago.

If we just had bursts of craziness here and there, I?d be your girl forever. Problem is that I?ve become dependant on you.. You?re always on my mind. It seems whatever I am going through, even as simple as waking up; I need /want you. . You?re getting between my work, my word, my dreams, and now even my hope.

I know I have always loved you more than you?ve loved me. This is why I am not expecting you to buy into my plan. You want me to play small and not to my potential. How do I know this? First, from people in your past. Then, by taking a step back and analyzing how our relationship has affected me in the big and small pictures that make up my life.

30 Days, Babe. I?ve given you way more time in hung-over, lost days. Show up as a bottle of red wine on Valentine?s Day and we?ll renegotiate. No promises. I just know neither of us are ready to say ?Goodbye Forever? right here, right now.

It's true, isn't it Hippy? At first I thought what am I going to do, how can I pass the time, I'll never have fun sober when everyone else is drinking. But I've found that I can have fun just the same and remember the fun the next day! It really is a matter of accepting yourself just the way you are and saying the hell with what anyone else thinks. And the truth is that others think of us a lot less than we think they do! :H

                            January 10, 2013...Choose the positive

These quotes are as much for me as for everyone else today. Choose one or two to carry with you today.

The difference between can and cannot are only three letters. Three letters that determine your life's direction.

Being positive or negative are habits of thoughts that have a very strong influence on life.

Positive and negative are directions. Which direction do you choose?

When you say, "I can't" and expect the worst, you become weak and unhappy.

When you say "I can", and expect success, you fill yourself with confidence and happiness.

Being resolute, decisive and courageous in small matters and in big ones is being positive.

You can close the windows and darken your room, and you can open the windows and let light in. It is a matter of choice. Your mind is your room. Do you darken it or do you fill it with light?

Positive thinking and negative thinking are attitudes. They are points of view, and show the way people handle their affairs.

Suppose you stand at a crossroads, one way leads to a desert and the other one to lush meadows, which way do you choose?

Do not let circumstances influence your thoughts and moods. By rising over them mentally, you will eventually rise over them materially.

Fill your mind with light, happiness, hope, feelings of security and strength, and soon your life will reflect these qualities.

Positive thinking evokes more energy, more initiative and more happiness.

When you have control over your thoughts, you have control over your life.

When there are difficulties and you feel down, this is the time to visualize, think and expect the positive.
Rule your mind or it will rule you. It is from a thought that an action grows. :bat

Rule your mind or it will rule you. It is from a thought that an action grows. :bat

From a thought, an action grows. Make those thoughts positive ones. It isn't always easy, but we have to implement change to get past the dark clouds even if the change can be painful.:l With that said, our thoughts even control our pain.
