Great job guys!
Imagine you're walking down a well worn path through a dense forest. It's a path you walk almost every day. You know its twists and turns by heart. It's wide and clear and easy to walk.
But today you decide to go off of the well worn path and make a new path. The underbrush is thick and there are briars that tug at your clothes. You push and sweat and work your way through to a beautiful lake. Well worth the walk!
Now how many walks through your new overgrown path do you think you'll need to take until the path is as clear as the old one? Each trip it will get a little bit clearer, whether you notice it or not. And every day that passes where you don't walk down the old path, it gets a little more overgrown. It might take a few years before you can't see the old path anymore, but it will happen.
This is in essence what is going on with your brain. You have developed a neural pathway that tells you it's time to drink. You set yourself up to go down the path by doing the same things. I start drinking (walking the path) when I get home from work. Or I start drinking (walking the path) when I'm stressed. It could be anything, but we are creatures of habit. You are currently in the process of establishing a new neural pathway that tells you that you are a nondrinker. It will take time, but each day the path gets a little clearer and wider, whether you realize it or not. But if you start traipsing down the old path again, your new path will quickly grow over and the old established path will stay nice and clear.

day 4 and the weekend... help!
Saturday night we are going to dinner and the theatre for a friends birthday, and they know I love wine....they do as well. I'm practicing now saying "ill just have a cranberry and soda, please". If they try to get me to join them, I think I'm going to say I'm just on a health kick. Then I'll have to be very careful of what I load my plate up with at the buffet....LOL! It better be healthy stuff only or my cover will be blown!
What are the challenges that you all have this weekend?
Can we gather team strength again?
