My family hates me, Help
Hi Buggy, first read around here ALOT! When I first found this place I was amazed because I had no idea there were so many others just like me. I also did Smart Recovery. Have you talked to your doctor? My doctor was awesome when I told her. No she did not understand the extent of alcoholism, but she did not judge me. We did all the blood work and my levels were all elevated. I promised her the next time I saw her I would have quit for good. My quit date came after a VERY embarrassing episode while drinking. I knew I could not keep doing this. After 10 years of daily drinking and so many embarrassing nights, countless hangovers and 1000's of broken promies to quit, I finally did it. I knew if I could make 1 day, I could take it one day at a time and it worked. I am now almost 22 months AL free and.still thankful every morning I wake up without a hangover. I went back to my doctor 1 year after I quit and she was so happy for me and my blood work was all back to normal.
Take baby steps and dont think about tomorrow, only worry about today and sometimes you will just have to break it down into minutes and hours. It gets easier overtime.
Read and post lots here. It is so helpful and everyone is awesome.AL free since March 17th 2011...loving this life. No drinking no matter what.
Hi my name is Lori and i am so happy to be here.

Hello & welcome Buggy!
You have come to a good place, lots of support & information is available here!
I certainly was in your shoes four years ago but all that has changed for me, you can do it too
I started by downloading the MWO book from the health store here on the site, it has a lot of info for you.
Then visit the https://www.mywayout.org/community/f1...box-27556.html to find lots of great ideas to help you put your plan together. With a strong commitment & a good plan you can change your life, many of us have.
See how you feel about the possibility of learning to drink moderately after a 30 day period of abstinence. I just knew, deep down as I approached 30 days that drinking was no longer going to be an option for me. That's something only you can decide.
Drop in the Newbies Nest thread for more support.
Wishing you the best!

Baclofen
The use of Baclofen for alcohol cravings is an 'off label' use. It's been very helpful for many people on this site. Good for you ordering the program. I would also suggest the 'easy way to quit drinking' from Allen Carr. It helps change your thinking about drinking.

Hi buggy and welcome :welcome:
If you go back a few posts you'll see that Lav put the link there or you just click on it.
When the book comes you will also see that that the use of Bac to control AL cravings is not as weird as you might think. Roberta Jewll was a diligent researcher and she discovered that while testing the drug TOPAMAX at The university of Denver it he late 1990's, researchers discovered an unanticipated side effect: it curbed cravings in late stage alcoholics. Desite the drugs originally purpose- migraine relief, anti convulsants I believe- the makeup of the drug yielded this unexpected benefit!
So Bac is similar to this experience. I took the Topa because that was part of the original package here. There's a thread here as well for people using it. And I can assure you that despite its original purpose in life, Topa definitely helped me and many others on the atart of breaking free from the compulsion to keep drinking insanely.
I'm still on my journey but Topa gave me a huge push.
So before you discount it, pop over to the Bac Threads and The the Topa threads and just read other peoples experience.
They are Ports in the storm most definitely
Stay close,
:l:h
PS: I think it took about 1-2 weeks for my packet to arrive but that was several years ago. When i Followed the program I did extremely well. When i went off the program ie stopped taking supps and the Topa, gave into my WTF mindset...well, I did terriblyOn My Own Way Out Since May 20, 2012

a little confused
Ok so i read thru some Bac threads and am interested but have some questions.
1. It is not a part of the program from RJ??? Does she recommend it,
2. How to administer it?
3. I have an RX for Campral but am currently not taking it because i am still drinking, the literature says it only works for those that do not drink at all. What should I do?
I feel like crap again today. had two very large scotch and waters last night....I want to stop, I want to feel better...
Some advice??

Buggyp:
When I found this site, I was too impatient to wait for the book and the order to arrive in the mail so I read a lot of posts on here. I found out that some people did well on l glutamine and kudzu. Depending on how much you drink, you may need help from a physician to be slowly detoxed safely from alcohol (read the disclaimer on this site).
I found the l glutamine from gnc, the micronized punch flavored powdered form works well for my cravings and helps me a lot. Kudzu the full spectrum recovery from vitamin shoppe helps too. Both I can get locally and I was able get them on the weekend and got started right away. That's just from my experience and always check w your physician is my disclaimer... Good luck!Alcoholic (or Ally)
