    Quitting alcohol?

Hello, I am 21 years old, but I have been drinking for 2 years everyday. About 8 or more double shots of cheap vodka. 2 days ago I have begun to have a very strong urge to quit. I drank that same night. But last night I only had one shot. It made me feel all shaky. So I didn't drink anymore. I couldn't sleep at all. I kept getting random twitches and sweats. I woke up this morning and I have been sweaty all day a bit shaky, nervous feeling, and absolutely no appetite. I really want to quit, but not sure how to go about it. I don't have insurance or a doctor. Can I quit cold turkey? I am afraid of seizures and the Dt's. should I taper and how. Please help.

    Hi Katrina....
I just read your post, I am not very knowledgeable as far as withdrawal part goes. What I can tell you is to stick close to MWO there is a wealth of knowledge here and a lot of great people. Stay strong.

      Quitting alcohol?

      Hi Katrina and welcome!

The physical symptoms you describe sound like a run-of-the-mill hangover. I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about things that "might" happen. How about going a couple of days alcohol free and see how you feel then? Get the alcohol out of your body and you'll be amazed at how quickly it will heal.

Stick close to us, and please share more of your story so we can get to know you!

I don't think anyone can answer that question for you. I drank for 20 years and didn't have a single withdrawal symptom, yet others do. The not sleeping will get better.

          Quitting alcohol?

Thank you for posting. I didn't think that anyone would. I will go a couple of days without, but it is going to be extremely hard. I have 2 kids and a husband and feel like I am hurting them by drinking. I have HUGE problem with social anxiety. Ever since I got pregnant with my first kid I have never went somewhere by myself. I too afraid. I use to live in a little town before my first and had no problem driving or anything. Then we had to move to the city for his job. I feel so uncomfortable of the city I won't leave unless with my husband. I haven't drove a car in 3 yrs or left the house by myself. And I barely ever leave even if then. I had a panic attack a few months. I think it was caused by the alcohol and all my stress I just feel like I am not normal.

              Hi Katrina

How are you feeling now? I too suffer from anxiety and when I drink it gets 100 times worse. I promise you if you quit drinking you will feel better. You could think about seeing a doctor for your anxiety?
Don't worry too much about withdrawal it sounds like your doing fine, just a hangover. Get a few days under your belt AF and things will be clearer ;0) good luck sweetheart xxx

The anxiety is probably being caused by the alcohol, if you quit I suspect most of your problems will disappear.

Can you get to a good doc? They can keep you safe while you detox.
If drinking is interfering with your work, you're probably a heavy drinker. If work is interfering with your drinking, you're probably an alcoholic.

                      Hi Katrina,
I think you should get registered with a doctor and talk it over with them so that you quit safely and maybe get some help with relaxation or referral for social anxiety.

                          Quitting alcohol?

Katrina~ I went through that, but I was drinking A LOT of beer...up to 30 a day and yes, daily. I did not have insurance, but found and addiction dr. to prescribe me topamax and it seemed to work great, a little fuzzy head at first, but then it got better...but then I stopped and I'm back again.

I got the sweats and the shakes and just felt like I would tip over, yet I never thought twice to suck down that booze:upset:

When I first began to work on stopping, I took beneydryl to help me sleep, took a lot of showers and because I am a single mom, opened my windows in the winter and ran a fan to help with the sweats! I don't have any answers, but I do know when I quit for those several months, I was the happiest I had been in years. Now, I'm working on it again, sorry to say. But, you CAN do it!

I was in the emergency room more than you can count for anxiety, only to be told it was alcohol driven. I'm not sure where you are, but there are a lot of places to help.

We are all here, in different stages, and we all want to help each other.

                          How are you today?
