        Hi all

Hi Bella. I drank the same amount of wine as you and it was difficult the first week to not give into the cravings. I found what helped me was the L-glut when they hit. I also would make a cranberry juice and club soda in my favourite wine glass when I normally had my first glass of wine. I found once I got passed the dinner hour the majority of the cravings would subside.
I also would brush my teeth right after dinner and then have a cup of herbal tea. It takes a lot of mental effort, but once that first week is done, you just take one day at a time and the voices get a little quieter
I also spent a lot of time reading and posting here.....I couldn't have done even a few days on my own. The support you find here is priceless.
Let us know how you are doing.

            Hi all

Hi Bella's and big Yey! That you found us

Have you considered just ordering the MWO starter kit? RJ- the woman who created this site- designed the book and the starter kit to eliminate the guess work for the most part of starting to get healthy again.

When I began I simply ordered everything and read her book cover to cover and then religiously followed the Topamax (that's the med part your Dr. Can help you with...( .though any dr. Who advises just cutting down as an AL treatment is a little out of touch..IMHO ) and the supplimnet schedule...I believe the starter pack was 30 days...

All your Supps are there so you don't have to go to the Pharmacy and guess so to speak. As you move along the program that's when you can Tailor it to your specific needs.
For instance , GABBA is a big Supp here and part of many peoples regime but i reacted badly to it so I just posted here and read and have found perfect alternatives for me!

Looking forward to getting to know you and welcome welcome :welcome:

              Hi all

              Welcome Bella!

There's a forum that deals just with meds, and you can read up there. Everyone is different...I've tried 3 different meds, but didn't work for me. I am doing it on my own right now, Day15. My husband is supporting me, so that really helps. MWO helps as well. I had a hard Saturday and they were all here for support---as long as you post!!!

Good luck to you, you're in good company!!!

                  Hi all

Bella..... The first five days are the worst.....3-5 particularly for most people.

Really try to tough it out. If it stayed as hard as the first week NO ONE would ever quit. This is why people fail....they fear it stays as hard as the first few days.....it doesn't. I absolutely promise.

Try to get 30 sober and then decide how to proceed. If you can do it cold turkey then do cos at the level you were drinking you should be able to.

                  I wish you courage :h

                    Hi all

                    Hi Bella and Welcome!

Your doctor obviously does not understand the alcoholic affliction, or there is no way she would suggest having "one drink". As an alcoholic, I don't even know the meaning of one drink! That is why tapering down never worked for me either. I'd start off with the best intentions but by beer 6 all bets were off and I'd drive to the store for more.

The first weekend can be hard, but NOT impossible. Stick close to this site, you will get lots of support. Remember, a craving will never last as long as a hangover.

                        Hi all

Welcome Belle and congrats on Day 2. :welcome:

Kick the Drink Easily is a wonderful book. I read it about 4 times my first month and then would reread it every month or two. I found it very helpful. Make sure that you change up your routine this weekend if you get cravings. Try to do something physical. Exercise, go out for a walk, clean your house, etc.

                          Hi all

Thanks everyone. Agree that my doctor is pretty useless. I told her that I drink everyday and I have tried to stop alone, but nothing helped in the past. That's when she advised I 'cut down' and try to only drink every other day, with an AF day in between. Good in theory! If I could do that easily, I wouldn't have gone to her in the first place!!

That's why I found this site and decided to do my own research and stock up on vits and meds that you guys advise. I am on Day 3 now By the way Angry Birds is a great distraction - ended up playing for 3 hours last night!!

                              Hi all

I never could get into Angry Birds...I tried! :H

Keep searching for a doctor that WILL help you! You're right, if you could cut down or drink every other day you wouldn't be here...neither would I!

Fly - Thanks for mentioning the book, I agree that it's great. One sentence stood out for me and I will never forget it. It said "When you pass out it's your body choosing between keeping you AWAKE and ALIVE because it can no longer do both". That scared the bejeezus out of me....I was forcing my body to make that decision every single night...

Stay strong Bella, you can do this!
