    Weird cravings

16 days sober and doing ok.
But get the strangest thoughts that trigger a craving out of nowhere,
Recently booked a summer holiday (i have already had a lovely sober fortnight in the sun 2 yrs ago ).
My wife told me of a friend that was in the same resort and it was lovely etc........and it had a nice bar across from our hotel.....
That was it !!!! And i was so annoyed ???? Because i wont be able to "enjoy" that bar if i am not drinking. Which brought on a huge craving , very annoying

Anyway , just thought id share that , tks for listening :-)

    Goodnight from dublin :-)
    Still trying !!!

    Weird cravings

Hi Damo good to see you back posting again, it's weird how the minds plays tricks with us, it's the feeling of losing out and the sadness that goes with it, Someone posted here that out felt like a death (stopping drinking) , you have been here before and know you can surf these urges, stick with it. Hang in there Damo. Good advice from madmans. Try to schedule things that take the bar out-of-play. Site seeing, exercising, or anything you would enjoy w/o booze!

        G'day Damo,

I think of this. I am missing nothing, and gaining everything. Easy to say i know.

I just do my best every day to cultivate an attitude of gratitude that i am free of this beast.

Do you meditate? It's a powerful tool once we get our heads around it.

        Keep it going mate! G.

Damo. I fully understand what you mean. We were going to book a holiday in the Caribbean for next month and it would have been at an all-inclusive. I would normally "gotten my money's worth" of AL. As it turns out we can't go because my Father-in-law is in the hospital.
I'm disappointed about the holiday, but relieved I don't have to deal with that situation. I mean it is "free booze"!
Not sure if an all inclusive is the best place for me to holiday any more.....but a lot of the vacation packages are that.
We were on a cruise in November (before my decision to get away from AL). You should have seen the lengths I went to to make sure I could have enough wine in my cabin! New Day was a wine smuggler!

Damo, you mentioned you did a 2 week sun holiday AF......do you mind sharing how you managed....what your plan was to stay AF during that time. I'm sure it will be a challenge for me when I go to Aruba in April. I need to be prepared.

          Thanks for any tips!

I know exactly what you mean. I feel angry with myself if I am going somewhere where the booze will be flowing and think, there will be loads of other people there who will be drinking and who aren't addicted, why can't i be one of them?! Why do I have to miss out...

I'm going on holiday in a few weeks and I would also love some tips!

              Weird cravings

Hi all , tks for your encouragement , its much appreciated.
Guitarista , i meditated during my last quit and am going to start again , i found it really helped me relax and put me in a good place.

Regarding my sober hol , i was already 6 months sober and very strong and in a really good place in my head.
I prepared for it , planned my day , starting with a run every morning .
I logged on here every day , was also lucky with a supportive wife and a very energetic 12 yr old son :-) .
I can honestly say it was my best holiday ever. There were some cravings but logging on here always helps.
I would recommend maybe bringing the my way out book or allen carrs.

My hols this yr are not until august so i hope i will be still sober then and be as strong as last time.
I guess because i am only a short time sober again has me dreading most social activities.

Thanks again for your advice and i wish you all the very best.
              Lets stay sober TODAY

                Hi new day ,

I , personally would avoid the "all in " holidays.
I think it would just add to any cravings you might have.

                  Weird cravings

I know you are right about the all inclusive holidays. My Aruba holiday isn't, but there are bars all around. Other than one happy hour drink in the afternoon, my drinking was usually starting with wine or scotch in the room while getting ready for dinner.....and then wine with dinner and followed up by drinking at the casinos (free booze again!).
I will be making some plans to help with my resolve. I will make lots of iced tea for late in the day, and tonic and lime for dinner, etc.
My pre-holiday plans used to focus mostly on what clothes I needed, now it's on what my drink choices are going to be....LOL!

Okay Damo.....I'm with you on a sober day today.....focus on that lovey holiday!
