    How to go it alone?

    Hi there,

I am just about to reach my first sober anniversary, and my situation was very similar to yours.

Drinking together was one of our favorite activities, but being a woman, the regular excessive alcohol consumption hit me harder than it did him and I realised I needed to stop.

He has got used to it -eventually. He cut back himself, and in fact he has actually sworn off drinking for the whole of February.

It has been tough at times. Mostly he was terrified that I would try to make him stop. (He definitely has a problem too but not ready to address it).

Emotionally once I got through the wobbly stages, it was fantastic feeling so stable and clear about things. Then I didn't have to worry about disappointing him because I knew I was being the best I could be.

Don't give up on change. It IS worth it.

Well I've had an AF day today and feel a lot happier than I did earlier and am really grateful for the support here.

I live with a heavy drinker. I think he was afraid that I would try & make him stop also. At first I was scared about how it would go but I did okay. It wasn't half as hard as I thought. It's not a problem at all now. I did go thru a time when I felt some discomfort, but it wasn't about making me want al but remembering the drunken haze & knowing that he was experiencing it. I felt bad for him.

I do my thing, he does his, sometimes we do things together. If he chooses to sit all day & do nothing but lift al to his mouth (been there done that) all day, who am I to judge? I just go on & do what makes me happy.
