      it is a deal. Surprisingly, I have no desire to drink tonight so I'm pretty secure. Today is Day 1 of Oprah's new 21 day meditation on "Perfect Health" so my plan for today is to listen to that and maybe get some stillness in my head. That is the most I can commit to right now. Thanks for your support.
      10/14/13: I am truly grateful for another day in this amazing life. I'm sober and mindful of every moment.

          Free and I'm Strong: Good to have you both back. Time fixes everything. Just try to get through a few days. Really try to eat well (healthy foods) and constantly have soda water, tea, iced tea or something in your hand. You will be less inclined to drink when full.

          Try Kudzu too. I have been taking it and can honestly say that I have not had any cravings to drink. That should not be confused with desire...what I mean is that I don't feel an obsession or need to drink at all...but certain situations or thoughts can make me want a drink. Wanting a drink is easy to put out of your head when you start thinking about the event that you associate with drinking and realize that the event can still be fun without the AL.

          I think you need to stifle the cravings first though to get a leg up...that's why taking vitamins and minerals along with kudzu can really help. I saw a few posts on NN about supplements when I first decided to quit/severely moderate and decided to include them in my daily regime. They have helped quite a lot, esp. my mood and overall happiness. I take vitamins B, C (the happy pill- which helps tremendously), and D along with Zinc and kudzu.

          I now find that I am less worried about not drinking than I am about my "excuse" for not drinking. So far I haven't offered any, but I have two events this wknd where I will have to discuss not drinking. Strange to be thinking more about the excuse than the wine....

          Again, keep posting regardless. We like hearing from you and how you are doing good/bad.

            Thanks free,Persephone and snow .... I will try to post more ... I do it on my phone which is time consuming so I don't make beautiful posts like yours usually but I love reading all of them../ you can count this day for me as I am in bed and if you read my posts in NN you know I NEVER drink in my pajamas ... Weirdest drinking rule ever I know but effective

              Hi 4thekids......I would be interested to hear what others have to say re explaining why they aren't drinking at an event where they normally would have. I'm thinking I'll say it's a health kick I'm on......only I'll have to watch what I'm eating as I say it....LOL!

                    Day 2 for me. My plan for explaining why I am not having a drink is that "I really want to lose some of this weight I have put on and I can't afford the empty calories. Thanks for understanding."

                        Thanks Free......I just rejoined WW online last night.....so as well as giving up AL, I am going to be careful of what I'm consuming. When I did my previous 40 days, I didn't lose a pound! I was so discouraged.....had I lost some weight I think I may have continued with my AF days. I really didn't change what I was eating, so I can't explain why after not consuming all those empty AL calories, I didn't lose weight. I hope I can find the time to track what I'm eating and more importantly, make sure I'm eating correctly. I think portion control is the key for me.
                        Day 3 for me.

                          Welcome everybody and well done to all of you for the great plan you have come up with and your new ?311 Gang Thread?, it?s a brilliant idea and I?m sure you will all have great success as you will be helping each other along each and every day with all the challenges that staying AF brings along.

                          Thanks Free ?my buddy from the start of this journey? for all your kind words. Also, I?m really happy for you that you know you do not want to moderate ? that is a great decision. For me, I have to try the experiment (whenever that may be) and then I will be able to say either way. At the moment I?m extremely happy (More than happy) plodding along ODAT and I will see where that brings me to. In the meantime, good luck with the diet and have fund at the GYM - you will be looking leaner and toned in no time

                          NoSugar ? Thanks very much, as usual for your excellent advice, as usual very much appreciated, and ever so glad that you are doing amazing!

                          New Day ? You are doing great ? You have a very busy life what with your in laws and your grandson. I was reading about your lack of weight loss ? do you get any exercise? (apart from running after everyone else) ? even going for a walk for ? hour might help to start moving the weight? Do you take lots of caffeine? that slows down weight loss as well. When I gave up Al I started my diet also and had to give up my daily 6 x caffine cups of tea with milk ? but I have got used to it now. Anyway, it?s worth a try.

                          I CAN - Glad to hear that you are staying in your PJs today so that will be another successful day for you today

                            Hi Snowflake.......CONGRATULATIONS ON 30 DAYS!!!!!!! Yeah for you.....you must feel soooo good. Hope you treat yourself to something special today!
                            I only have about a 1/2 cup of coffee with a bit of milk in the a.m. Then it is clear green tea and switch to decaf for the afternoon cup. I used to exercise regularly but my gym membership is not being used much at the moment with all the other commitments I've taken on. Hope that changes when the daycare gets going for 4 days a week next month.
                            In the meantime, I'm just going to try and follow WW and keep the portion size down......I love my food!
                            Back in the good old days I had a very active metabolism and never had to worry about what I ate. Once I hit late 40s that sure changed! I'll be 60 this fall and it is very hard to shed these extra 10 lbs.

                              Hi New Day – Thank you so much for your congratulations – Yes – Yeah, that’s what I think also – I didn’t start out for 30 days – it was really 1 day at a time – 30 days terrified me! I had to take it one day after the other with no goal ahead (I must change my sign off quote) – but 30 days seems to be a big event, and I've made it! – So yes, I will bask in the glory. I actually did treat myself to something special – I had my hair coloured and cut (I always put myself last and it badly needed doing), anyway it is really lovely, so with the 7 kgs that I have lost (lots more to lose, but it’s a start) and my 30 AF it’s a great day! I’ll just have a sip of my lemon water to celebrate

                              OK – So it’s not the caffeine, and you will get back to the gym eventually, so if you try to get a brisk ? hour walk in every day, if you can, I’m sure that would help a little. My portion sizes were terrible as well – I love my food also! Huge but huge portions – it’s when I go to dinner with friends that I see how much I really eat and how big my portions are – I feel such a greedy person and can’t believe how easily they get “full”. I can just go on eating forever – not desserts – I don’t care about them – but aperos, fois gras, fillet steaks, b?arnaise sauce and country potatoes – I very much love my first three courses, dessert I can leave (sometimes)

                              Yes, back in the old days we all had a very active metabolism – but yes the late 40s changed all that for me as well, and although I have lost quite a bit, it’s still going too slow for me – but then I took years to put it on, so I should just have patience – I have another 12 kgs to go! Your 10 lbs is not a great lot – I’m sure once you start exercising it will roll off!

                              Anyway, just stopped briefly in between my chores, to acknowledge your lovely post, so got to get cracking again, good luck with the WW and yes keep the portions down and have fun with your grandson, that must be lovely and all the best in advance for a lovely AF Day tomorrow.

                                Just popping in between errands and chores to add another congrats to Snowflake on 30 days and 4thekids who should be at 23. You go girls!

                                Off to hit the gym -- I only get in half an hour on the treadmill, but it gets me out of the pattern of drinking in the early evening.
