Where to start
Welcome Pilot .... You are in a good place to start right here. This is where a lot of people got their beginnings. One of the senior members will be along shortly I'm sure to give you good advice. In the meantime, you can get great support over in the Newbies Nest ... pop in there and introduce yourself. It is a busy thread, but lots of encouragement.
If you want to choose not to drink, instead of thinking that you are denying yourself a drink, I find the more positive thinking helps you to succeed when the going gets a little rough.
Look forward to hearing more from you and following your success.

Where to start
Hey Pilot! Welcome to the site! You have landed yourself in the best possible place!
We can help you...I drank hard for about 26 years, and if an old coot like me can do this, I know you can, too!
Hop on over to the Newbie's Nest....the link is in my signature line below. We have folks on Day 1, 2 and ALL stages of their quit. I recommend reading back a couple weeks there to get to know us. Interestingly, many of us have just watched that movie, Flight, and have been discussing its realism. Also below, find a link to the Tool Box, you'll find 100's of tips and coping skills to help you get started. I know this is a big leap of faith for you....but it is do-able, and life without AL is BETTER (I'd have never thought I would say that). The turbulance is going to subside and a comfortable cruising ATTITUDE awaits!! So glad you found us! Byrdie

Hey Pilot,
I'm in the same situation. But not sure about you, I'm not one for AA. I went to my Doc and started Naltrexone a couple months ago. That has helped. He added another one called Campral to re-wire my brain I believe. I'm doing pretty good without craving a the drink. My search on these medications has brought me to this site. It seems a bit like an on-line AA group. Anyway, I starting this journey too after several decades.
