Debunking the Myth: Why the glamorization of alcohol is a LIE

Edited to add: PS ... I know we are going to get along just super because we both seem to like laughing at our rather embarrassing moments.

Debunking the Myth: Why the glamorization of alcohol is a LIE
Ever been to one of those Italian wine tasings. Even the shit Grappa tasted good to me at the end. How sad, every one trying to be intelligent and slowly getting pickled. Hosting a bottling, now I loved those or what I could remember of them! YOU can,t be intelligent and drink at the same time!!:H:H:H

Debunking the Myth: Why the glamorization of alcohol is a LIE
I am in love with this thread, because I am still feeling the sting of some really embarrassing moments of late -- of which I will be glad to never to experience ever again if I can help it. I like to laugh ... glad you all do too!

Debunking the Myth: Why the glamorization of alcohol is a LIE
Now this is glam! Woke up one morning in 30deg heat, lying on the ground outside our tent with flies buzzing all round. One eye open and my boxer dog does a big poo a few inches from my face. We had been hunting foxes. The smell was real bad. So I threw up!! Real glam

Yep, this thread keeps it "real". Another really good one is "You Know You're An Alcoholic When...." Now that thread has some DOOZIES! It's kinda comforting to know that our antics are pretty common amongst us alkies...embarrasing, yes...rare, no! I have more than I can remember...whenever another memory pops up I normally put it in the thread I mentioned above....or here:

Debunking the Myth: Why the glamorization of alcohol is a LIE
HI, I'm a newby from NZ. I could cry with relief that the people on this site are so normal. When my kids pointed out (lovingly) that I had a drink problem, I argued with them for years - I don't need a drink until the evening and to me, being an alcoholic meant that you drank meths and lived on the street. After an incident at the weekend at a family gathering, I could deny it no longer. I'm addicted to alcohol, and under the influence I am sad and bitter and nasty. Haven't had a drink since the weekend and I still feel sad and ashamed about what I said to my darling granddaughter. Thank you for sharing your stories. The fact that this addiction can happen to other normal, loving people makes me feel less of a monster and less ashamed. This is my first post. Apologies if I have put it in the wrong place.

It is full (and at the moment REALLY FULL) of people at all stages working on living an alcohol-free (AF) life. There are several there right now who have just started and lucky for us, there are long-term abstainers who mentor those of us who are trying so hard to get this right. If you go to the nest and read back a couple weeks or so (jump to "last page" at the far right of the screen and then go back about 30 pages), you will get to know us. Then, tell us about yourself! The more we know one another, the more we can help one another.
Welcome to MWO -- hope to see you in the nest.

Debunking the Myth: Why the glamorization of alcohol is a LIE
Welcome MWK!
You have found a GREAT place for support, guidance, advice and help. Yes, most of us are "normal" folks that found ourselves in trouble with alcohol. Most people here never lost a job, went to jail, lost their families, went broke, etc. etc. But what we found is that we simply cannot drink alcohol anymore. It turns us into someone we don't like. Please stick around and as NoSugar said, head over to the Newbies Nest. We're glad you found us! :h

p.s. I DID do my fair share of jail time...read some stories and you'll probably be suprised at what some nice, decent people have been through. We have one thing to blame = alcohol!:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:
