Debunking the Myth: Why the glamorization of alcohol is a LIE

Thers this awful show called ' How I Met Your Mother' in which the main Character ( the ex- Dougie Houser, for heavens sake) is a complete drunk who..Squews my French... Screws any woman whose legs aren't nailed shut.

But you can believe that he looks charming, well spoken and witty, always in a suit and tie and flashes that boyish grin like fireworks... I hate this show because my 14 year old found this series on Net flix and got glued pretty fast. Then I discovered that almost all of his class/friends knew this show and talked about it like old ladies buzzing about their soap opera.

Sorry but that just pissed me off....like Red and K9 said God forbid the writers of that show, show us the STD's, the abortions, the depression not to mention all the crap that we all know comes along with that kind of AL intake...

Needed to say that. Whew!! I feel better

They could be pouring lighter fluid out in some of those commercials and making it look good! It is amazing the $$$ that go into the marketing of the stuff. Kuya says to imagine it like embalming fluid....YOURS! YIKES! Puts a new spin on it! Thanks K! B
Nothing glamorous comes to mind when I think of drinking alcohol. What comes to mind is memories of me with my head in the toilet, heaving up (often I was lucky if I could make it that far).:H Waiting for the clock to say 7 am so I could legally buy more beer. Canceling appointments and lying to cover up for my inability to drive to events. I never drove drunk (thank God) so I stayed home ALOT even though I'm a very social person, when I'm sober! Missing even my Grand-kids birthday parties. Wrapping my trash up in boxes so my neighbors wouldn't see all my empties. Warning should read something like...Drinking this may ruin your life or end it prematurely!!!
Sober since Sept. 24th 2012 This time 4 SURE!

This is such a WONDERFUL dose of medicine that I needed tonight!!!
          Thanks!!!

I also hated waking up with no memory of the night before and cringing as my husband began explaining to me what I did and said and how I embarrassed myself. No wonder I don't have that many friends....

Debunking the Myth: Why the glamorization of alcohol is a LIE

I have to keep the imagine of alcohol as poison in my mind if I am going to get over my own "glamorization" of alcohol. I try to imagine a cocktail party with several cartons of cigarettes laid out on a table and the host/hostess coming up to me upon arrival and saying Marlboro? Winston? or some other brand. I would be appalled if that happened. So that is the image I keep to help me resist my desire to have that first glass of wine.

Lol @ supercrew so funny if wasn't such a serious addiction

Loss of self worth and respect
                  Self loathing
                  Skipping shower
                  forgetting meds
ending up in hospital from falling down drunk

In every soap show and a lot of tv most gatherings take part in a bar or some one's glamourous home. Yep doesn't show the reality of trying to persuede some one not to drive home after numourous drinks. Some passed out and ill on your sofa/bathroom. Family arguments with a member or members of family out of it on al.

Great tread thanks for starting and for the reminders that there is nothing sophisticated about drinking. Oh and i hate the jargon the so called wine experts go with. The flavours the bougeout scuse the spelling. Who makes this crap up lol

They are making it too easy!

Maybe this product has been around awhile but it is a new display at my grocery store that I have not seen before:

It is one of those cardboard racks with pictures of happy, attractive wine drinkers on it and on the racks are already poured single glasses of wine with plastic lids! ($2.99 each). I imagine this is a much classier presentation than those 4-packs of mini wine bottles. So - you can slip off the lid, have a glass of wine, and save your souvenier cup.

The only thing missing from the display is an enthusiastic COLLECT ALL 10!

Jenn, great post. I love to watch the so called wine conasouirs at tastings in our local bottle outlet. Sniffing, rolling the wine around their mouths, trying to identify which region and even which winery the poison came from!!! Lots of the tasters are piss pot alcoholics just like me after free wine. Usually they are pretty well drunk a few hours into the tasting!!!

no sugar: love your sense of humor!! so funny and no, thank goodness I haven't seen those "glasses of wine" on my store shelves.
Boozer - very funny and so right!! When I was drinking and frequenting the wine stores on the weekends, they were always having tastings. I always refused to taste.....because a taste was NEVER enough. I needed to get home with my bottles and disappear into the bottle all by myself. What a waste of time...where is the glamour in that???????

One of my connections on facebook is constantly posting what she's drinking...I swear I feel buzzed just reading her page. LOL

Seriously...why is wine okay to guzzle, as long as it's an expensive bottle? I'm getting to the point where I can't stand these snobby wine connisseurs. They're as much an alcoholic as I am with my Bud Light. I just never felt the need to take a picture of each can I was drinking and post it on Facebook. LOL

It is OH-SO-NOT glamorous when you are trying to be all-sophisticatedly-drunk at a party talking to everyone with your red wine mouth (that you either don't discover until you head to the bathroom or wake up to in the morning). Glamorous indeed!

LJ - True! That's ALMOST as glamorous as me stumbling around in the liquor store in my yoga pants with the hole in the left ass cheek. I mooned that poor guy more times than I can count. I wonder if he misses me?? :bum:

He probably misses the laughs (and the peeks at your cheeks) a little bit ... haha (just teasing).

Edited to add: PS ... I know we are going to get along just super because we both seem to like laughing at our rather embarrassing moments.
