    Newbie greetings.

:new: Hello all! I heard about this from a friend and decided to join and introduce myself. Im Dave, 33 and have been a heavy social drinker for the better part of 12 years. Aside from the strain and stress that I have caused my friends and family, I have made the conscious choice to step up and commit to starting the process of moderation and eventually removing alcohol from my life. I was completely sober for 4 months back in 2004 and 6-7months in 2008 with great delight, but fell right back into weekend binges or glasses of wine after work. More recently it has been social scenes, partys etc that lead me into making less than admirable choices. I am a very, very social person and find it easy to sit with anyone and conduct a conversation. With a passion for wine, it will be a rough start but know I can succeed in moderating my consumption. How has anyone else succeeded?

I look forward to keeping up with this forum and know I will meet some great people here.

    :thanks:

      Newbie greetings.

Hey, Jazzetry. Welcome to My Way Out! This is a wonderful place to find your way out from a life that is being negatively affected by alcohol. There are many different goals among people here. Some people want total abstinence, some want to moderate, some use meds, some use supplements and diet. You will find that people from all over the world come here and share what is working for them.

I believe there is a special thread for those who want to moderate. Some, like myself, have found that I am just one of those who are not able to do that. (God knows I've tried!) I think the rule of thumb is to try to get 30 consecutive days sober, and then, with a clear mind, to decide whether you want to continue on that path, or try to moderate. Also, see how you spend those 30 days. Are you ok after a few initial days of missing your usual drink, or are you counting the minutes and every day seems like an eternity to get through.

We have a Newbie's Nest, under 'Just Starting Out', where there are lots of people who are just starting out or starting over. You will find lots of encouragement, support and friendship from some wonderful people. Read back a bit and get to know us. Post and let us get to know you, too. So glad you have joined us!

Thanks for the kind welcome Kuya and Almost! Im on day two with no alcohol and hope i can stay strong and diligent. This would be a much needed blessing to be able to close the door of this chapter in my life book. Lord knows im tired of looking at crumpled up receipts and pictures on my phone to discover what happened at the end of the night.
