I can't help with any medical advice but I just wanted to say Hi and let you know I'm in Qld too. Sometimes it's hard in here being in a different time zone to most of the others so I'll try and keep an eye out for you.
Well done on going to the Dr and AA. Please don't feel embarrassed or ashamed, you should feel very proud of what you're doing. It takes a lot of courage to make big changes in your life but you're doing a wonderful thing for yourself and your children.
