First Time In
This is my first attempt to quit drinking two bottels of wine everyday for many years. The cramps I get at about 4PM control me rahter than me controlling my drinking. Where should I start? I've heard cold turkey can possibly cause convulsions. That's bad I don't want to pass away if I'm by myself. I start drinking around 5PM everyday and only stop after I fall asleep / pass out. I,m 6' + 200# + so I can handle it for the most part. I just know it's very bad for me and I need to stop. I think I could except for the stomach cramps and crappy feeling I start to get around 4PM. What should I do, where should I start?:newTags: None

Hi Terry and welcome to MWO!! This is such a great place for support.
My recommendation, and I am no doctor, would be to slowly cut back on the drinking instead of going cold turkey. I used to be a two bottle of wine a day drinker and I did not have any major withdrawal symptoms so you could be just fine, but you do not want to chance it with going cold turkey. I am now moderating and getting in some alcohol-free days thanks to the supplements and CDs recommended in this program. Have you bought or downloaded the book? Would be a great way to get an idea of what this program is all about.
If you do experience severe withdrawal symptoms I would recommend seeing your doctor, but I suspect you will be okay. Stick around here and keep posting. The support will help so much because you will realize we all understand.I'm really easy to get along with once people learn to worship me

Hi Terry,
go to see your doctor before you jump on in, it's always a good idea. Not to be denying the lovely Lushy's sage advice but I was a bottle of Voddy a day girl and went cold turkey, and had no withdrawl symtons whatsoever but then its different for everyone I guess but I would definitely discuss this with your Doc.Lots of us here have gone AF and there are just as many on the Mod's it's all whats best for you...
Like Lushy said, this is a fabulous place to get help, advice and support.
Good luck:welcome:

Welcome Terry, you really have found the place to be, keep looking in and let us know how you are doing. Great advice from those who have already posted and from those who will follow. Sorry i'm not so good at advice apart from STAY HERE! I'm on day 2 AF (alcohol free) and feeling a bit rough just now but I know without a doubt that with the support here I WILL GET THROUGH THIS.
We got a mountain to climb, let's climb together.

Hi terry,
i joined yesterday and was withdrawing badly from a 3 week long, nightly binge. You could try cutting down gradualy as i am doing. Its easier on me than stopping suddenly.I too was afraid of the "cold turkey" method. iv been so inspired by the advice and support givin here that its given me new hope. read as many of the forums as you can and post a few of your own.

I've been a heavy drinker for about 30 years. When I first quit in October '06 I experienced some withdrawal symptoms, mostly like a 3 day hangover. I stayed quit for almost 3 weeks and have been moderating since then. I have found that when I decide not to drink I no longer have any withdrawal symptoms as my consumption is way less than it had been. I also have found that I can enjoy a couple of drinks and not lose control as long as I don't go past the third one. After that it's drink until bedtime or passed out whichever comes first.
Good Luck."It's not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what's required."

Hi Terry and welcome.
Check out the Health Store here on this site and also read the book. I cut down slowly myself. Keep posting and reading and you will find a lot of support here. Good luck."Keep your eyes and heart focused on the end goal at all times, and never settle for less."
