So I built up enough courage and made it to the meeting. I found this group to be absolutely wonderful! A lot of young people, professional and intelligent looking people. I expected to find a bunch of down and out losers...I was very mistaken. The biggest surprise was to see a very close co-worker come in a little late and the look on his face when he saw me. He's a good friend, but he never told me he had been going to AA for the past 4 months. We travel together for conventions and meeting and I noticed he had stopped drinking, so I find this positive because I know I have probably been a bad influence for him in the past and vice versa. I'm feeling positive and will go again tomorrow.

Wow Joe....how auspicious a start for you!
Not only confirmation that you are 'normal' (addiction is SO prevalent) but you have an ally, a peer and a friend already. You are fortunate indeed.
The stars are aligned for you to quit Joe......catch the wave

Your story in particular caught my eye. I was JUST like you. EVERY morning.....was going to be the last morning......the last morning that is until like you said, 3 o'clock rolled around.
I didnt need a clock/watch to know what time it was when that craving hit, it was kind of erie. Also had the wife not liking my drinking.
If and when you REALLY want it, it will happen. It might take a rock bottom, it might just take willpower and accountability, it might be supplements, AA or some combination of all of those.
What works for some, doesnt work for others, there is no, one size fits all solution.
You have great people/advice here, and somewhere, someone on here is going through exactly what you are. You are not alone, welcome aboard.
EDIT: Almost forgot, Kuya is correct, it does get easier, if you can just hang on tight at the beginningLiving on Planet Sober since 05/02/11

Hi there - great that you had such a good experience of AA - so hang on with it and keep posting. Terrific advice peeps have been giving you.
I too have a job where I sometimes find myself in the drink-poo situation or having to dine out. I concentrate on the conversation and the food and if its dire - might make a polite excuse to leave. I don't usually go into details about why I am not drinking - a little mystery adds to the charm! Its more of a hassle sometimes being a vegetarian than teetotal.
If friends pursue the issue then thats different.
I am still embarrassing, funny and silly sober - its just better to remember the details and not have to grovel later for excuses/forgiveness.
Good luck - tough to start but it gets easier.

Thanks Spiderwoman! Felt great without the initial hangover, but I've been having headaches during the day and right now...probably withdrawals. I made it to my 2nd AA meeting too! different group today, these folks have really been thru the wringer. Makes me realize how bad things can get if I don't stop drinking.

e.
These meetings indeed tell you where you are heading if you continue. It only gets worse, your last drunk is as good as it gets.
Courage, my friend.....it gets better.
