Happy to report another AF day/night for me. Am starting to wonder if you can drink too much seltzer water -- is that why my tummy has a poochy belly or is it middle-age, or residue from too much wine?

Halo, glad to see you posting when you are having AL thoughts. I was thinking about the 311 gang -- we have Siren, you, Halfway, I'm on My Way, and me (anyone else) still working toward an AF life. You know the power of posting. It sure is helping me.

Forgot to mention, thanks, Halo, for your encouragement. My hat goes off to the people who are staying AF even though their partner drinks and there is alcohol in the house. Now that would be tough! Thanks.

Hello, all. Glad your hanging in there halo. The cravings are hard to deal with especially during hard times. The sparkling mineral water has been my support, haven't become to tired of it yet, but I am getting very picky. My favorite is Pellegrino because it has a low sodium content. Perrier is nice with no sodium but not the same kick.

              Hey, Halfway

Have you tried La Croix Pamplemousse (grapefruit)? I love it - it is refreshing and very inexpensive compared to most other brands. The lemon and lime also are good in my opinion.

Nosugar, thanks. I love grapefruit so I will look for it. Just picked up my Pellegrino for the week, but whenI am out and about I am always looking for something liquid. Preferably, low calorie, low sodium and low cost!

Just checking in to say hello. Day Number 5 for me! We went out of town this weekend to my Husband's aunt's 90th birthday. His family doesn't drink so all went well. It's nice to have a good time without obsessing over AL!

Hi, Miley. Glad to hear things are going well . It is a relief to be with people who aren't drinking, isn't it? No stress, no worry.

I had expected a dinner event tonight to be a challenge but it went well. I told the person who offered to bring wine that I wouldn't be drinking but that I was sure my husband would love to have some with them (real nice of me, huh??? ) But, he does not have a problem so he got the job of being my social shield.

Makes me kind of mad that I got myself all worked up about 2 events this weekend that were not at all the problems I had anticipated. I know all of this isn't going to be easy but I sure don't want to be making it even harder!!!

Hope you have a good week! :h NS

End of Day 6 for me, and feeling like crap because I have an URTI (sore throat, cough, sore muscles from coughing, you know the drill). But I'm still boozeless and that makes me feel somewhat better!

Wishing all of you a smooth day (or night) ahead. :h

Who's Working It? -- AF May starts today

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions on seltzer waters. Afraid my choices here are limited but am managing to stay AF. Will look into salt content, however.

NoSugar, congrats on getting through the two social events. I am guilty of playing something out in my head to be so much bigger than it, eventually, turns out to be. I have a work/client dinner this week and the host is big into wines -- am working on my plan. Since the morning after the dinner, I have to be "on site and working it" before breakfast, I have a great excuse for not participating in the wine rituals the night before.

Will be traveling much of today and tomorrow so may not be in email contact, but continuing to push on down my AF path.

NS - that sounds like just another tool that Dick Head tries to use to get us to cave - "Everyone will think you're weird. No one will like you" and on and on. Good for you for having a shield in place.

The hub and I went to one of our local haunt's for lunch yesterday and he insisted we sit at the bar because a friend of ours was tending. So he ordered a beer and an iced tea for me. The bartender asked if I was OK. Now I think I have stated previously that beer was never my downfall - it fills me up too quickly. Neither has drinking in public ever been an issue - I can have one or two and then stop (and of course continue at home afterwards). So this wasn't a huge trigger for me and required next to no willpower to get through, particularly while on Antabuse. But it just goes to show that the general perception is that there was something wrong with me for not wanting to have a beer at 11:30 in the morning.

14 days for me - woo hoo! Gonna go post in the roll call.
Well it's all right now. I've learned my lesson well. You see you can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself.

                                goodmorning!!

Kambob: I can relate!! A simply HORRENDOUS cold has gone through my house. First my 16 year old son, then me, then my 13 year old son and now my husband. I had a nice chuckle this morning when he said "I feel so horrible....do you think I should go to the doctor?" This cold has gone through 3 people before him so he should know that it is just a bad cold!!! My DH, such a baby when he gets the sniffles I hope you feel better soon!!

NS, Siren and Free At Last: You talked about getting worked up about an event and then the event not turning in to what you anticipated and you were able to "sail" through. IMO, I think it is BECAUSE you get worked up beforehand. At least for me, if I think it through before the event, I am not caught off guard but rather I have my full defenses up and ready for action and ready to answer questions like "are you ok?" (because I am not drinking)...I get asked that A LOT. It is when I am caught off guard that I am weak.....but with time, these unplanned situations get a bit easier.
